Went down there a few times when it was first built. Pretty cool to have such a thing about 2 miles from where I live but always get put off by the possibility of glass / dog shit that kids put in the pockets....

....always check it out first if you don't want an unpleasant surprise...

ive been going there regularly since it was built cos its free and every bit as good as the edge or foundry bouldering.
ive never seen any glass, shit or anything else on the holds. a lot of the kids are keen to learn to climb and most are friendly.

I've never had any problems either,  but I've heard of people who have.

Most of the kids are depressingly strong.

quite a few of my mates use it too and havent had any problems, but ill keep an eye out in future.

i thought id do a little website for the boulder just in case anyone wanted some decent problems to try out. i think probably no-one will ever use it, but what the hell, it keeps me from sitting watching the tele all evening.

by the way, where do you live bubba? you said you live nearby. im on queens road by halfords and ive got a decent cellar if you get bored and want to try somewhere new...

Its good mate! I like it, the format and the layout and that. V.good effort. If the TV starts to call you again, do it all in flash and get it to move and stuff!

by the way, theres no piccie on green, orange and dark blue - or at least the page loads but theres no img referenced.

On a nerdy note, you can make your site respond quicker and retain a theme throughout by using cascading style sheets. These may seem really complicated at first but they are well worth doing, all you need to do to add a new page is reference the style sheet at the start and let it do the rest. Feel free to steal mine by clicking here (opens in notepad) then just load it into the page in the head tags with

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylebm1.css">

I'm becoming such a CSS nerd that the new version of ukb (due in about 2010   ) won't even use HTML tables. And it'll be properly standards compliant, and accessible....and and..... one day I might even get it done.

Yeah, it's a nice boulder, it's free and it's outdoors which on the one hand is great but on the other hand it's very small compared to the Edge/Foundry, and being in Sheffield, it's wet about 75% of the year.

Good effort for the topos though - you doing the Crookes one too?

I've still not got round to learning how to use them - or why to for that matter - for the HK Climbing site - will they really make that much of a difference??

P.S. Got myself and the site mentioned in the lifestyle section of the South China Morning Post (HK version of the Telepgraph / Times / Gurdian - you know what i mean) this week. Fame and fortune are just around the corner...

Shame this isn't still the dotCom boom as some poor fool might have offered you millions for your "Asian Lifestyle Portal" or something.

Main advantage of using external stylesheets: Suppose you get bored with the fonts or colours on your site. One quick edit of the stylesheet and the changes are reflected throughout the site, rather than having to go to every page and edit the Html tags individually.  Can take a few seconds as opposed to what could be days of work on a big site.

thats what i thought they did - thing is, to implement them i'd have to spend days doing what you've just described - guess i'd better just not get bored of the current site colour scheme etc........

hopefully the mention in the local rag might interest one of the climbing shops round here to cough up some doe to sponsor the site

I might have a look yes - to make it really useable why not feature a printer friendly topo so that you can take it with you. As whilst the kids are lovely I'm sure, the thought of leaving my iPaq knocking round the floor whilst I climb is a little disturbing.

Haven't you got a trendy iPaq holster that you can stylishly wear whilst bouldering?

Here we go:

Just beautiful - now you can do problems, and read the beta stored on your PDA at the same time. Classy.

its not wet 75% of the time. nothing like it. even if its been raining and stopped theres usually something you can do on it. it dries really quickly except for a few of the deep pockets that hold water.

its not that small either, the surface area cant be much less that the wave at the foundry.

no im not going to do the crookes one too as i dont ever go over there, and besides, its crap.

i think ill do a printer friendly set of diagrams though. it would be good to get a few more decent boulderers coming over now and again.

give me a couple of weeks...

Well, i have never been and it is free so I will go and have a look at some stage. The thing is, if its minging I will go to the Foundry, and if its sunny I will go out on the rocks, therefore it will have to wait until I have only a small amount of time or something.

You are certainly a vociferous supporter of the boulder Simes - are you trying to lure us there for some deviant practice?

It's ok, and I can see why you're into it, but for me, it only takes 5 mins more to get to the Peak, so no contest really.

ditto, if its dry enough to be climbing outside then its probably easier for me to get to the peak than to this boulder. To be honest i've always questioned the logic of building 2 artificial boulders in the city with probably the highest concentration of great bouldering just outside the city boudary of any city in britian. Especially when theres loads of other cities with fuck all bouldering nearby.

i thought it was well fucked. it went pop as i was pushing out and down sideways and it really hurt. i had a shite nights sleep after that. every time i moved it woke me up. ive been massaging it and moving it around a bit and its been ok today. i think its going to be ok as long as i take it easy for a week or so. ill be carefull. im going to font on 17 apr for a week though, and pembroke for a week straight after that and ive been training hard for the font trip to try and get some good stuff done, so it has no choice but to be better for then!
im optimistic.

maybe i should lay off the chips.
