font accomodation and car rental
February 25, 2005, 06:13:16 pm
hello,
just a quick one...
we fly to beauvais, car rental for a week seems to be £100, is this normal or are there any cheaper options? is one of those economy 2 door thingys able to accomodate two people and two mats jammed in?
where to stay? we can camp, is it worth it? where, and where is the best to stay for access to food, bars and good areas?
many thanks james

To be honest, I wouldn't camp. I camped once at La Musardiere and it was fine cos of the good weather, but fook me was it spenny.  Everyone who stays in a gite pays eff all, although maybe you need to be in a big group for it to be economical. La Musardiere is Ok though, bread van come in a morning and that.
The only place I went to was Milly Floret, got bars and a market, you can get a beer at 8am. There's a huge Carrefour somewhere up the road for all the shit you'll need food and booze wise.....

These other doggs on the forum are off to Font like I'mm off to the off licence though, so they'll be dropping the knowledge better than me.

I doesn't too much matter where you stay, everything you need is within driving distance. Camping is a right pain especially in winter, get a gite instead.

£100 for a week of car rental is about right - you will probably get a Renault Clio, a 206 or a Fiat Punto. Plenty of room for 2 and pads. We manged to squeeze 5 people + 2 pads in a Clio last trip!

Camping is a last resort IMO. The bivi at Cuvier is closed and La Musaderie (the campground at Milly la Foret) ends up costing almost as much as the F1. Ok if the weather is good but as Font can be fickle this time of year it would be pretty depressing to camp if it rains.

If there is only two of you can have a browse at www.gites-de-france.fr to see if you can find a cheap 2 person gite - its low season now so you might find a cheap one but usually a gite is only economical if you have a few more people.

Your best bet is probably the Formula 1 at Moret or the Etap in Avon / Font town. Both a good value. The Etap costs more but is centrally located and has a private WC. F1 is cheaper, shared WC and a bit further away.
