Visiting Belgians
September 23, 2024, 06:32:24 am
There were some very friendly and charming Belgians at the Tor yesterday (about six of them I think). They said they were over for a week, camping in Buxton with lots of pads and trad and sport gear. They were asking what was where. They were keen for both grit and limestone, bouldering and routes. They all seemed much more capable climbers than me (a couple of them did Call of Nature in a couple of goes and others seemed to be making good progress on Mecca).

They seemed very far from having a meticulously researched knowledge of the area. I said I thought they might have a good chance of decent grit climbing on Tuesday if they chose the right place. The forecast this week looks like local knowledge might help them a lot. Anyway one of them is Emile Pino pinopictures · Instagram in case people have local advice for them or whatever.

Ah!
That reminds me of an article in (I think) an old High magazine, about Olivier Froideval (studying in Sheffield at the time), who was "erroneusly dubbed The Mystery Belgian". He did very well in that season indoor comps.

Great to see that they seem to have had a good trip with nice/impressive instagram photos https://www.instagram.com/p/DA0pbC4tRJp/
