Hand specialist recommendations
July 23, 2024, 07:52:45 pm
Hi Folks,

Can anyone recommend a hand specialist who has an awareness of climbing? Few things wrong with may hands, including Dupuytren's, a nerve issue and a weird thumb twitch/weakness. Not had much luck with the GP so thought I'd ask on here.

Thanks in advance 👍
Rob

I spoke to this guy about my eternal PIP issue, IIRC he's done work with Volker in the past. Was happy to discuss ideas, thoughts, concerns, didn't push dubious treatments that he could have charged me a bunch of money for. I think Mina also used him as a second opinion when she broke her wrist. Consultant is much more expensive (maybe 4x?) than seeing a physio so you may want to try a few physios first unless you're sure you need someone more at the surgery end of things...

I got a referral to go to the Sheffield hand centre at the northern general hospital. They were great. Consultant gave me a slot in their surgery after an X-ray. I think she was also a climber. Ask GP for referral, I appreciate not all GPs are keen to do that

I asked to be referred here by GP on recommendation of a hand therapist who works with England cricket team. If you Google most of them also have private clinics. Seemed to be a high concentration of expertise and the guy I saw (Carlos) obviously had some familiarity with climbers/the rigors of climbing. They also did my friends wrist broken when he was on British ski team.

Thanks everyone. I've had a couple of recommendations for the Derby one now, sounds like they are very familiar with climbers.

Hi Nick, cheers for the info 👍
