spray on adhesive for knee pads
July 01, 2024, 01:23:17 pm
Looking for tips, I've always used duct tape but hurts quite a lot and bruises my skin when I rip it off. does the spray adhesive work as well?

Not got any direct experience, but its the done thing with tape gloves these days, and I've seen a few 'works well for kneepads too' type comments.

Assume its this stuff.. https://sporttape.co.uk/

Mueller Pre-Tape spray is much better than the Tuffner.  The adhesive removal product is amazing, well worth getting it as well.

I bought some tape and some pre-tape spray.

The pre-tape spray is the way forward. The knee pads are rock solid and don't slip a millimeter after applying. It also means you don't need to crank the straps as tight so feel a lot more freedom of movement.

What sort of spray did you get Haydn? Something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tensospray-300ml-Pre-tape-Adhesive-Protector/dp/B0CLP861GJ/

Haydn, does this actually glue the kneepad to your leg for the whole session?
Or does it just form a grippy layer on your skin, which gives better grip for kneepad against your skin? (And can therefor take the kneepad on and off during the day)

You can take it off easily but the best thing I noticed was it stayed tacky so didn't need to re apply the glue for the next go

Do you apply the spray to the pad or your thigh or both?

Do you need to shave your legs before applying the adhesive, just asking for a friend

Shaving the legs is usually much more about taking the duct (gaffers) tape off than the adhesive.
The spray adhesive just leaves a tacky residue.

Anyone found a good product to get pre tape spray off? Soap + water + scrubbing feels like I'm going full Ramsay Bolton on my own legs.  :'(

Not sure about this spray but wd40 works pretty well to get a lot of similar tape residue off. Could be worth a try. Standard engineer solution of it it doesn't move and should use wd40.

I'd imagine some rubbing alcohol would be effective and least irritating to the skin and quick to clear off after.

you can dilute it with water to get the right ratio of cleansing vs sting

"Sticky Stuff Remover" liquid should work (I think it's acetone with a light oil by the feel and smell of it), but wash it well with soap and water afterwards. I'm not sure handling nylon ropes or slings with any of the stuff suggested on your hands is wise?

Might it be better to just leave bits of gummyness stuck to the skin until normal skin turnover sloughs it off?

That's what I do with bits of superglued tape from covering flappers/splits.

Solvents that soak into the skin might set off dermatitis. I got that on the bridge of my nose from daily use of safety specs that were damp from being alcohol wiped. It took a couple of years to clear up. I'd never had any sort of skin problems before.
