Inflatable pads
June 10, 2024, 04:05:16 pm
I came across these things the other day, which got me thinking about the potential of inflatable pads:

http://sicksequence.com/

I would almost consider something like this, for the following potential use cases:

1. As extra paddage when bouldering alone or in situations where you need loads
2. You could almost imagine travelling to some bouldering destinations with these in your carry-on and no hold luggage
3. To throw on a bike/travel with on public transport
4. To throw on top of a SUP for paddle-to bouldering exploration

My reservations are:

1. Bottom looks a bit vulnerable to puncture IMO
2. Potentially death on steep grass
3. No grab handles or tie off points

Looking into it a bit more, there are some other options out there:

1. http://kailasgear.com/products/inflatable-bouldering-rock-crash-pad?variant=43217459544308 (Looks much more robust, but bulkier too.)
2. DIY job: http://youtu.be/TV4z8ZQf_-s?si=S6bPUt6JysHIrhC_
3. So-called tumbling mats look cheap, but potentially too fragile: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gymnastics-Tumbling-300x100x10cm-Material-Cheerleading/dp/B0CSDQQ2FY/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?adgrpid=1177577851256741&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.m2aIn5lhX06pfAC5fhJf-pgrjrs9qZ4GXo8O4_WPx0CkqG5c_vp8pIOe8WeCM_AI3OfwOPwYCWCLqytPzlcwYQm80wqjhGCdpK2iH4qXK_l4yhyL9vPP2rRxU09MpKXgS7KrCscokIhJvnHkkAm4Qu0B0k3qxc3zSkneDBWMZfQEmlS9WFY2zfIP6ueValG255hbbkv0L9no7-ufdV3nnxQKt8Tw3H89_l0bvZOqIdHfS2vLEUuSaMS_P2M8CYg4x4TyXZg4B4F0nhtOnPhFIX3oJvMQRRcoaVzFQOWTkl0.1ZXPc0ZhfqWSurYjEew59Tcfi6Wlt5ZvKkM19LhCmo4&dib_tag=se&hvadid=73598866632274&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=131210&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvtargid=kwd-73598749328790%3Aloc-188&hydadcr=22609_2286987&keywords=inflatable%2Bgym%2Bmatt&msclkid=dad8de2d87e810225466b84a92b33429&qid=1718031713&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

I'd be interested to hear any thoughts or experiences on any of the above. A load of hot air, or potentially very useful?
