Off to N. Yorks this summer, staying near Whitby and Harrogate for a week or so at each.
Will be willing and able to sneak out for some bouldering here and there throughout. 
Likely to be me and 2 pads for a morning, an afternoon or an evening (ie. not all day).  Keen for some grit/ sandstone though I recognise it's not the best time of year for this.
Where should I go?  What should I get on? What'll be in nick? (Sixes and sevens that aren't going to scare the life out of me, without spotters and a big pile of pads!)

Almscliff would be the obvious choice for an evening from Harrogate this time of year, dependent on where exactly you are will be as little as 15 mins away. Exposed position to get any wind going and a great compact circuit if you've not been before.

The Barden crags (Rylstone, Lords Seat, Simons Seat, Hen Stones) would be my other usual reccs for this time of year, but prob 45 mins from Harrogate and a decent walk in, so not the best if you're time strapped.

Kilnsey bouldering is good fun for an evening session. Nice and compact. For some reason you often have to share the crag with people dangling about on ropes but, hey ho. Go on a breezy day (ideally Easterly) to avoid midges. I'd go here if you're more interested in trying hard and less keen on aesthetics.

Otherwise it's gritstone, and in summer as Tim says Almscliff is the best bet being both exposed and generally less conditions dependent than most grit. Don't go to Caley, it'll be horribly overgrown. Ilkley can be good this time of year, especially The Calf which is very exposed to any breeze, and you do still get some beautiful sunsets if you can put up with all the other visitors.

Plenty of other options up on the moors but long walk ins are in order so not very time efficient.

Brimham is a good choice for a family day out, can go for a wander with the family, then excuse yourself for a bit to boulder if they are happy to have a walk. Can be a bit bewildering on first acquaintance though. Also option of easy toprope routes if the kids are bothered.
