made me think. What are the most irritating things enthusiastic intermediate climbers utter at top of mount stupid?

To me, any of the following could vie for the top spot:

"Actually, if you get stronger, the individual moves get easier and your endurance automatically improves"

"Actually, most accidents happens on the descent"

"Actually, tube style belay devices are safer than a grigri"

"Don't use your knees when you mantle"

"Always bring a maillon with you to bail from bolts if you cannot get to the top"

"If you get stronger you have greater risk of injury"

In a similar vein to this I once overheard "the grades must be wrong here, I always climb v6 indoors". When the venue is brownstones and the grades have been confirmed since the 80's I think you will find that it is the indoor wall grades that are the ones that are incorrect...

Dabrock where were you decades ago when I was getting masses of shit and hassle on UKC for not towing the homogenous line, daring to have different viewpoints, ethical principles and standing up for them?? That was a good time and place for reigning people in....

I have a great deal of respect for this forum and its users but occasionally { imo } it strays into the realm of unfair judgement and bullying.

For what it's worth I do agree with you there has been times when things have been quite uncomfortable. I just don't necessarily feel that way about this thread. I respect where you are coming from though
