He Pingping of China smiles as Sultan Kosen of Turkey rests his hands on He's shoulders during a promotional event in Istanbul, Turkey on January 14, 2010. He, with a height of 73 cm (2 feet 5 inch), and Kosen, with a height of 246.5 cm (8 feet 1 inch), have been listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's shortest man and tallest man respectively. Damn, I wish NASA would publish a shot of the UK like that every day (or hour), it fair knocks old Meteosat into a cocked hat.

Dunno what happened to your NASA link there, perhaps you should read the FAQ.

 I pasted from the wrong buffer (Linux systems have two copy/paste buffers, one for Ctrl+C/V the other for doing the same with the mouse).

I meant to link to the NASA Goddard Flickr stream

Damn crappy OS eh? Ah well, at least you didn't pay for it.

Having explored NASA a bit, it seems you can get a decent colour sat pic of the UK at least daily, bit of a faff to find mind.

Nothing to do with the OS, it was down to user error (I Ctrl+V instead of clicking with the third-mouse button as I thought the URL was stored in that buffer).

Brilliant, duly bookmarked for future reference.

We need that quantified. Furthest away from the vessel? Furthest distance travelled (i.e. outside for a long time)?

He doesn't appear to be going to/coming back from anything in particular. Just going for a bit of a wander.

Furthest, so that would be distance (which may correlate with time)
If you'd followed the back-linked picture to its Flickr page and you'll see its from the NASA Goddard Photo's and Video Flickr Stream the caption for the picture reads....

Quote from: NASA Goddard
Mission Specialist Bruce McCandless II, is seen further away from the confines and safety of his ship than any previous astronaut has ever been. This space first was made possible by the Manned Manuevering Unit or MMU, a nitrogen jet propelled backpack. After a series of test maneuvers inside and above Challenger's payload bay, McCandless went "free-flying" to a distance of 320 feet away from the Orbiter. This stunning orbital panorama view shows McCandless out there amongst the black and blue of Earth and space. (02/12/1984)

So a bit dated, but can't find anything else that mentions it (or newer records surpassing it) and trust the source to be fairly reputable.

Alright sarky!  ;) I know what furthest means, but I wasn't sure whether it meant furthest from the space ship, or furthest distance travelled (i.e. out of the ship for hours and having gone around the world twice).

But yes, I could very easily have clicked the link (didn't notice it)  :P

It must be a fucking odd feeling, being so far from Earth, floating around, all alone. Makes my tummy feel funny.

Sorry for being pedantic

I usually try and link pics back to their source (because of my pedantry).

As much as I'd love to go into space I don't think I'd like to go outside the vehicle, just in case I ran out of Nitrogen.

I was thinking that, but I'm sure you could speed up/slow down the shuttle a little, and you'd soon end up back where you wanted to be. I'd probably end up with a big brown stain inside the suit though  ::)
