You mean those good natured Scottish football supporters who travel the World spreading happiness and cheer and putting the England scum to shame? Er........

fair city

I though it happened in Manchester?

Scottish supporters rarely actually get to leave Scotland (given the national team's record), so they need to blow off steam once in a while.

(This is a joke btw an I in no way condone any football related voilence, or any violence whatsoever (although if I had to support such a shit sport I would get pretty violent as well (especially if I had to live in Glasgow to top it off))).

sad is not the word.

Kind of puts it into perspective that there are sad bastards rampaging because their beloved footy team lost, when there are people having to deal with that.

It's extremely upsetting, but it's still a quality photograph.

Ja, I saw the above last week: I laughed for ages, her expression is of one a lady that has just taken her muffins out of the oven and found them to be just so!

I think it's time you all saw this one, which you'll agree is perfect:

In response to the Chinese disaster photo I dont think it should be taken down. It is very upsetting but that's the point. I have often wondered whether I would have the ability to stay as impartial as I could and not dive in there and help if I was put in such a situation. I suppose the only way that the people behind the camera in such heart-breaking pictures manage to refrain from ditching the camera and helping as best they could is that they know that people back at home will see the photos and that they may then dig deep and donate to the aid operation thus indirectly saving lives.
I could see there being a potential argument for taking it down if this site was frequented by young people who are perhaps of a more sensitive nature but the vast majority of people on here are adult and mature(!). Its a lot worse for the people actually living that nightmare than for us sitting in front of a computer.

i don't have a problem with the photo per se, nor the content. people just seemed to miss my point, being that i didn't think the photo was 'quality'.

How do you know that the person behind the camera didn't put it down after snapping the pic and get stuck in helping?  The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Do you mean "technically" it's not particularly good? If so I agree with you, but when it comes to reportage, surely content and impact far outweigh technicality (for want of a better word) when it comes to judging quality?

Technically its fine, but other than that its just a competent photo of some dead kids. Its not a great photo by any measure.

Guess I must just be a bit more emotional then, and moved by photos of a tragedy.

I guess it all depends upon your personal interpretation of "quality". To me it doesn't just mean a technically accomplished or especially artistic photo, it can just mean something that makes you feel something, whether that be joy or despair.

Perhaps we should have a seperate topic for photo-journalism pics? I seem to remember the last time I posted something similar not everyone thought it should be in this topic.
