I think he realized it was catching him whatever and that he was already stood next to something he could shelter under/behind.

It is undoubtedly terrifying however.

Edit: hadn't watched this narrated version before posting. But he was still never going to evade it.

So do people who die in avalanches!

Crazy footage, very lucky chap by the look of it he didn't have a lot of cover and could have been buried or incapacitated.
