Do you work in Alternative Provision? Do you use indoor rock climbing as part of your curriculum?

Researchers at Leeds Beckett University are currently recruiting teachers to take part in a study that will help them to understand what motivates schools to incorporate climbing into their curriculum.

Eligible teachers will complete a 45-minute, 1-2-1 interview with a researcher on Microsoft Teams. As a thank you, participants will receive a £10 Amazon voucher.

Expression of interest deadline is April 11th, 2022.

If you wish to learn more about this study, or would like to register your interest to participate, please follow this link https://forms.gle/X9r7D4x1ZLDdvxFh9

A question that you may or may not be able to answer.
I run a specialist unit for pupils with Communication and Interaction difficulties within a mainstream secondary school and I run a climbing session for those pupils once a week, would that be considered 'alternative provision'?

Hi. Thanks for your question. Specialist provision within a mainstream school would count if the students were dual registered to spend equal (or more) time in the unit. Does that help?

Thanks PP.  Minimum 50% in mainstream, although most of ours do 80%+ so probably not precisely what the researchers are looking for.  Seems like an interesting piece of research though.  Albeit a small sample size, I can certainly report significant benefits to those that participate in climbing.  Be interested to read outcomes of the research when it's done. :great:
