Wanting to borrow la Saussois guide
February 15, 2022, 12:42:53 pm
I'm off to France next Thursday. Does anyone have the guide for Le Saussois? I was going to stop off there for a day on the way down to the verdon.

Can pick up from sheffield

I visited when passing and don't remember having a guide, but I had a topo of some sort. I'll try and find it.

If you're intent on what I'm thinking, it isn't hard to find!

FWIW, it's in the ancient Bill Birkett French Rock Guide, I have 2 copies, but in Aberdeen.

If you're just wanting to do Chimpanzodrome, it's obvious - there's a big amphitheatre next to the road with big cliffs on either side. In between the two big cliffs there's a hill with a short steep section of cliff at the top. Chimpanzodrome goes up the middle of that short steep bit. La Bidule is immediately to the right of it.

For some reason (bibliomania meets charity shop I imagine?) I have a copy of the old Martin Atkinson French Rock Climbs guide which includes Saussois. Written descriptions and both English and French grades because it's from 1990.. but probably enough to get up a few routes. Happy to scan/photograph the pages and send them over.

I've got the Jingo Wobbly Burgundy guide that covers Saussois with the usual Jingo Wobbly pictorial weirdness. Not the best guide to get you psyched for an area but it's got all the info you need for a few day's climbing.

Forecast looks rubbish this weekend so I doubt I'll be in the Peak area before you go but I can send you photos if you want?
