down / uploading on internet file shares ?

my pc pretty much down/up loads on file shares like soulseek etc 24-7

am i gonna get nailed for this?

bit concearned cos of recent stories in the news about prosecutions against people that do this

some mates tell me its ok others say i need to be more careful

what do you lot rekon? :?

I'd just keep your share to a reasonable size until this all sort itself out - I'm planning on keeping < 5000 files shared for the time being.

think i will  do some seriuos cutbacks on what is available to other people then,

if you do get caught is there anykind of first warning thing or is it straight to prosecution?

I reckon your ISP would give you a first warning but even so I've stopped sharing my whole share on soulseek

I've not seen a great deal of information about the UK prosecutions and how they are being enforced.

I think there are several ways forward:

- Use linked private networks. It's easy to set up a private p2p network these days which is pretty save from the prying eyes of the authorities.
Some of these allow linking to other private networks, so a large p2p network builds by word of mouth/trust. I share much less to the general public than to the members of our private network.

- Using a p2p app that hides individuals IPs - not sure if this is easily available yet.

- Use proxies to hide your IP - not sure of any that are suitable for p2p use but I have seen some that claim to do this and charge a small fee.
