Finger pain
November 20, 2021, 08:37:01 pm
I strained my A2 pulley a while ago, and was recovering nicely. I then pulled on a ming crimp and set myself back a little. The symptoms from that went and I now have slight pain on the top (opppisite to palm) side of my index and ring fingers, between 2nd and 3rd joints. Iff I make fists with both my hands, it feels tight just on the injured hands around the 3rd knuckle/between the 2nd and third.
Symptoms/pain seem to disappear if I have a shower.

Any ideas what I've done and how to remedy

I've been doing tendon glides and pen rolls along with strecthing in line with my A2 rehab, but doesn't seem to be getting much better with this new tightness/pain.

Do you H-tape when you climb?

Take the shower with you when you go climbing.

Completely anecdotal but I've found ice baths before bed have helped with this sort of thing, and it's low-effort enough that it's worth a try, I reckon:

Fill bowl/tub with water and a couple ice cubes

1:30 min in water

1:30 min out of water

Repeated 5 times or so.

When/if the cubes melt then pop another couple in to keep water nice and cold.

By the time he's due his next shower/de-lousing grit season will be over.

I do H tape when I climb . I'm  off to the physio tomorrow so will see what he has to say, I've had enough of finger injury for this year. I wonder if ice baths just treat the symptom rather than the cause? Good point about the low effort though!

I am forced to de louse before attending social events or medical appointments, as not to be become too much of a social pariah.

I think it's a bit of both, there is some science about encouraging blood flow to freezing extremities, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to get into any more detail than that!
