Legend - it's an overused word, bit in this case, completely appropriate.
Once more with feeling - 'teenage kicks, so hard to beat...........'

RIP king of eclectic radio

I think almost everybody, no matter what their style of music, had the greatest respect for the man. I'll miss his laid-back but enthusiastic style and his distinctive tone...

fuk me...........
im actually shocked..! Fuk, when i were a teenager in hereford his late night show was the light in a very dark morass of Bates, D.L.T etc. His constant bating of them made me realise what u are offered is not what is good. His shows had a selection of everything, shit, mediocre good and the genius all delivered with a dry wit and a lack of ego, bollox a sad day for radio...
I remeber him standing in for some mid day jock in the late 80's and opened the show with Teenage kicks  by the Undertones (his fave tune i think) as it played out his dry distinctive tones obviously esasperated by the shit playlist
'Surely you must of liked that?'

A real pity to lose a real legend...the end of an era. I've been a fan for many years but had lapsed recently...  :(

Someone said of Fawcett, "if you cut him in half if would say "Rock" in the middle"... ...if you cut Peely in half it would say "Music".

Nice picture Bubba.

I can only echo the above sentiments. The man gave me an education in music and I have no doubt that without his presence, the world would have been a much duller place. I remember when I was a youth my dad would goad me that I wouldn't be listening to the likes of The Jam and The Clash when I reached adulthood. I looked at John Peel and knew that I would.

I'll be raising a toast to his memory tonight. A great man with an incredible legacy.

such a shame to lose someone with such a rare talent. He must have opened the door for thousands of djs, bands and artists during his time. Such a shame to lose someone who consistently played the best from every genre and introduced me to so much new amazing music

RIP

One of those things that have always been part of life; doing anything late at night and Peel was there. The music he played was usually good, sometimes exciting and, lets face it, sometimes downright wierd, but always interesting.

A mate of mine was at the Big Chill where Peely was DJing.  He was playing stuff from the 40's mixed into speed garage, back to indie, thrash then Techno.

A man on the pulse of good music whatever genre.  Lets hope that the Bolivian marching powder had something to do with the heart attack.
