Gnarly NE trad cliffs
October 21, 2004, 07:36:01 pm
Just seen several miles of massive sea cliffs on some Nature program presented by the lissssping floppy haired one who used to do The Really Wild Show. Looked proper gnarly. So did the cliffs

Goes by the name of Bempton. I know this is Fowler (Eastern Promise) territory, but come on there's more than 1 line on these cliffs. Oh yeah, he went again with Cave didn't he. Anyway, any geordie types know the low down? What they made off, access issues, guides  :?:  Curiosity that's all.

Cheers.

Generally swimming or suchlike IIRC. More likely to be rescued by the coastguard than told to git orf moi land.

Bemptons not really Geordie country... East yorks. Always meant to go but the access is something of a  pain - first off its RSPB so its banned, tho that shouldn't matter well outside the breeding season. You have to wait for a low spring tide then run along the base until you see a good line, then get stuck in and get instantly cut off. Hmm this is getting me keen again... sounds fuckin amazin.

Looks lovely, check out those vertical grass topouts!

Doesn't look loose or chossy (how do you spell that?) at all!

Should be right up JB's street...

Went out to climb here when I was 18 and dumb.

Waited for low tide, sprinted along base, started up possible line, got twenty foot up. Tide comes in. Second joins me. Got another 10ft up and shat my load. Hanging belay. Wait for tide to go out. Bail. Run home.

Not yer average day at stanage.

Count me in too. I've just got to finish moulding some more skull shapes, then I'll put my jacket on inside out, cut my hair with some garden shears and be right over.
