Yorkshire Area Meeting - 24th Feb
January 27, 2021, 04:44:58 pm
Hi all

Just to let you know that the next Yorkshire Area Meeting is on the 24th Feb. BMC info link and Facebook event links below. Its on Zoom as you might expect; an Eventbrite registration link will be added in due course, I'll post again when thats done. You can register right up until the meeting starts so its very low faff.

As you may know I have foolishly agreed to run these and am going to make an effort to boost attendance so would be great to see some of you there; there are loads of Yorkshire lurkers on this site! Please feel free to keep your screen off/ just have the meeting on in the background if you can't be arsed with the social interaction, or fully engage; its completely up to you. I would also be keen to hear what we do well/badly so we can improve for next time so if nothing else, attend so you can slag me off afterwards.

We are organising a speaker (TBC) and there is plenty to discuss. There will also be a shit knock off of the Peak Newsletter launching in the coming weeks (thanks Cofe!) for you to peruse.

Please feel free to comment with anything you think should be discussed and I will ensure we cover it. Cheers!

Hi Jim

Was actually going to contact you about proposing an additional stile at Crookrise to allow access to the Khumbu area without having to go up to the top and fight back down again.

Cheers

T

Now that’s all BMC owned we could maybe have a trail building day in the summer to make those boulders more accessible? I remember getting down there being pretty unpleasant.

 :agree:

My overriding memory of going down to the bottom of the well-named Khumbu area was that the problems, if clean, were not unworthy of attention, but that the approach to them made bad value because it was so bloody 'orrible. Even if trail building isn't an option it could be fairly straightforward to build a stile over the drystone wall that you follow on the approach to the main crag. The Pine Boulder is pretty close to this wall IIRC.

We can bring it up at a BMC meeting when they finished the ORG stuff in 2025 or so

Come round earlier than expected! It would be great to see this happen.

Nice one - I'll try and make it.

Please don't give Will Hunt a platform to spew his ill-informed views. He will become the Piers of climbing.

Ah I thought we’d discussed it at some point! After recent forays i think there’s a great low grade circuit lurking amongst the trees, moss and scree.

Yep, I agree with this idea. If I am remembering right, this potential new stile could go at the start of the steep muddy gully just before the Moorside boulders? This would allow access to Woodside Buttress and then a path through the trees to Khumbu/ Everest area? (See map p.174 of YMC guide to see if this makes sense!)

It’s actually a bit further down the hill from the moorside boulders, where there’s a few low blocks you pass. There’s a corner on the wall with a low point which makes the obvious crossing point. This is below Woodside buttress and above the Pine boulder in terms of height up the hill so a good level.

Nice one. I'll raise it and with any luck we can get it sorted in the spring/summer

Stick a reminder on this thread on the day, and I will be there. My life outside of work is as organised as a bomb site.

Unfortunately won’t make any difference for the other end as it’s so hard to walk through the jumble.

Is attendance necessary to engage in the slagging off of you Jim?

You could nominate a proxy to do it on your behalf

Your nomination must be submitted atleadt 3 weeks in advance, to the national council, one of the directors, sport england, and that old guy in the corner who never says anything. All In triplicate, and any outstanding subs must be paid in cheque or goats before submission.

Sounds like a lot of effort. Might just send him some abusive texts instead.

In person attendance has never been a requirement to send abuse my way previously, so crack on I would say. Clearly as soon as I can force relevant articles of amendment through this position will change.

Typically I managed to send the non-proofed one to Tony for uploading, so that link has a few grammatical missteps in  :slap: will be corrected!
