Jon Pearson
October 28, 2020, 07:58:32 pm
I've just learned that Jon Pearson very sadly died earlier this month.

Jon was behind yorkshiregrit.com which was so well loved, and was also involved in the development of a number of new crags in the area. It doesn't feel right not to mark his passing here somehow.

Christ that’s terrible. He’s not old - so that’s unexpected.... always enjoyed a generally short bit friendly chat with Jon at the Cliff when Insaw him.

Holy shit. He was a lovely guy and had a rather unique climbing style. Thanks for everything you did for Yorkshire bouldering.

R.I.P. He seemed a really nice man, and I always enjoyed our encounters, back when I was addicted to Yorkshire grit bouldering. His website was a resource that hasn't really been matched since for usefulness and community engagement.

PS I think A Little Sparkle was Andy Crome's, possibly with that Francis chap who used to run Sypeland Outdoors in Pateley Bridge.

damn - very sad news.

Jon was a top bloke and yorkshiregrit.com led the way for quality regional web content for a number of years (I used to pick his brains lots when I was setting up the HK climbing website)

A very sad loss.

Lovely chap.

yorkshiregrit.com was a great way to keep on top of all the new activity that was happening at the time, broke the mould.

RIP

Yes - Tragic. An innovator with YG.com and a very good climber. Remember him filming problems at the cliff and chuntering away that he had to as someone had sponsored him and told him to film some :) I was puntering my way up Belly Slap for the first time while he was doing some exorcist link or something - and he was super keen and encouraging despite my crapness.

A quick search: this was the day I think..

RIP.

I didn't know Jon, but from everyone's reactions it seems clear we've lost a really good person.

And a stark reminder that it's OK to talk, it's OK not to be OK, fuck all the toxic masculine hardness bullshit and talk to your friends about how they're really feeling.

this is very sad news :'(

It was always nice to bump into Jon at the cliff and have a session with him thinking up pointless DWR eliminates.

I can’t say I knew Jon in the slightest. Bouldered with him a few times at Widdop etc and he seemed like a decent guy.

We interacted more online, when I submitted a load of shite videos/info to yorkshiregrit.com and he was, again, a decent guy.

Really shit news. A sad loss to the scene and I can only send my regards to his friends and family.

I never met Jon, but Yorkshire grit was a gold mine for me, particularly when I first started out, it really got me psyched and helped me get out and about on stuff. Properly shit.

Really sad news. Jon had such a positive effect on the Yorkshire scene. A grim end for a truly bright spark.
