I'm going to be staying next to Lake Como for a few days next week and managed to negotiate a morning out climbing somewhere, I was thinking my best bet will be to drive to one of the granite bouldering areas to the north listed here https://climb-europe.com/rockclimbingshop/rock-climbing-italy-bouldering-mello

Does anyone know of any of the areas where there might also be somewhere I can rent a pad? I went to Mello years ago but can't remember if there was a climbing shop or anything

Hi I was there a few weeks ago and the climbing shop in San Martino rented them out.

I think it was around 9 euros a day, we didn’t end up renting one so can’t comment on quality

The mountain centre in Val Masino (http://www.centrodellamontagna.it/)also rent them out for €8 a day. Seem to remember the pads being in decent condition when I hired one a couple of years ago. Benefit of renting from here compared to the shop in San Martino is that it is open everyday and has longer opening hours (this was pre Covid though so could be totally different now).

If you do rent from here make sure to get an espresso and gelato. It was about €2 for amazing coffee and the garden is a pleasent place to sit. Even has some decent bouldering in the grounds if you decide you can't be bothered driving further up the valley as well.
