Font in November?
September 08, 2020, 01:43:28 pm
Am I living in dreamland thinking this will go ahead?

Booked through AirBnB and stand to lose 50% of the total cost unless there is some change to government guidance. As it stands, "non-essential" travel to France is "not advised"... AirBnB due to update their guidance on the 15th September so we will see what this brings...

We were booked in April with an Airbnb.

We asked the host to cancel and they refused. Raised it to Airbnb who sorted us with a refund.

May well depend on what official Government guidance is at the time.

I thought the FCO advising against "all but essential travel" was then fair game for cancellation / insurance?

If it's government advice rather than an enforceable rule then consumer rules suggest company and consumer should "come to a mutually agreeable position".

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cma-to-investigate-concerns-about-cancellation-policies-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-pandemic/the-coronavirus-covid-19-pandemic-consumer-contracts-cancellation-and-refunds#cancellation-relating-to-government-guidance

If there were a proper lockdown preventing your holiday you'd be entitled to a refund.

That's why the regional differences in Wales England Scotland are a nightmare, not helped by the government's liberal use of the word should.

Key issue from the sounds of it is whether you're able to isolate yourself for two weeks after you come back. With all the chopping and changing you should assume you'll have to, so if you can't it sounds like a no-go.

Just to say as it’s currently against FCO essential travel your travel/accident insurance will be invalidated on most normal insurance policies.
Depends whether your bothered I guess...don’t have a crash  :(

This, I guess, will depend on the insurance company. My insurance company has assured me I'll still be covered for accidents as usual. I won't be covered for any Covid-19 related medical bills.

I'm with Snowcard so perhaps they're more specialist than normal travel insurance companies.

The other side of the quarantine coin is currently France don't have quarantine restrictions on travellers from the UK. If that changes I'm not sure there would be any point going to Font for 2 weeks of quarantine only to return to the UK for another 2 weeks of quarantine. Unless you're going to Font for a lot longer than 2 weeks or really love self isolation.

It’s really not that simple. It depends when you took out the policy and what the policy says. They’re all different!

Besides, AirB&B have their own ‘extenuating circumstances policy’ which is what Fatneck needs to read. They keep extending the date (currently mid October) of reservations where guests/hosts can cancel without charge, assuming you made the booking before 14 March. I expect this to be extended if the British FO travel advice remains “all but essential”.

Travel insurance won't touch any coronavirus stuff. They'll refer you back to the travel agent / tell you to do a charge back.

Thanks guys. It's all down to AirBnB and their policy. Had to cancel an Easter trip this year which we got a full refund for but booked this trip much more recently (July) in the vain expectation that things might have calmed down and so don't currently qualify for a refund other then the 50% already mentioned.

Also, we re-booked our family Easter trip for 2021 with AirBnB and were able to put our tunnel ticket back until then so staying positive that things have changed sufficiently for even this to go ahead!

Fingers crossed for some good news on the 15th. I'm pretty certain we won't be going to Font at this point and still planing to take the time and going somewhere within the UK for the week.
