I feel the main difference between ukb and ukc is that ukc is full of "keyboard warriors", who would say nothing to your face but would start a snottty thread afterwards.

More ukb'ers would double-down on an online insult... and grin whilst doing so.  Brutal... but at least you know where you are. Although it does come perilously close to "banter" sometimes - the refuge of scoundrels.

Being called a Noob here feels a bit like being asked for ID at the pub.

Strange - but oddly complimentary.

@scragrock - it’s not that bad for stick this place. Unless you’ve taken 20 years trying to climb the Oak, or paint Orcs 😛

Being a “Noob” “knob” , All sounds a bit Boys club to me. Perhaps new contributors should F**k a pigs head to be part of the gang?

As for climbing Oak?
Apologies, I don’t know what that is...Sounds like the usual old boys Peak centric banter.
As for your last reference-
It’s a shame that particular gentlemen gave up on Scagland ( like Gaz I never got the pleasure of climbing with him ) but I don’t blame him. It rains most of the time up here and the place is absolutely loupin with Cleechie Middle class English Do gooders.
It does make up for it by being the best place in the UK for developmental bouldering.

"Noob" = "newbie" = (relative newcomer to the site).

The Oak = The Austrian Oak in Malham, Yorkshire, which grand overlord Shark has been trying to redpoint, and posting his trials and tribulations with, for 15,000 years.

Yes there are in-jokes but I think there's a lot of other chat and information and banter that doesn't revolve around them??

And you Wildlings are a valuable part... GazM, richieb, Stewart, SA Chris....and I shared a lot of Scottish bouldering when I lived up there.

Thanks for the clarification Fiend :)
Yes I am aware of your Highland wanderings and the various clans up here, No mention of Dave Wheeler?

Nice analogy...with that in mind-
Who is the King in the North? :worms:

Scottish Fuds.

Yeah I get it’s not a recruiting post but maybe more folk would stick around or contribute more if they felt they weren’t going to get assassinated.
That just hasn't been my experience here. When I've asked for advice or information on an unfamiliar destination the replies have been clear & useful.
When my health started to go tits-up a few years ago I received more than a few very supportive PMs from folk on here I've never met personally. Maybe some of this sites good qualities aren't immediately obvious?
I don't post regularly cause of visual difficulties, nothing to do with attitudes on the site.
(Hope that doesn't sound a bit pathetic :boohoo:).

Three Nine

No longer climbs. I miss him. Gave me his 100m rope. Hope he doesn’t start again.

There was rumour about a child? Virgin birth I assume

No child, but he did have a brief relationship with a woman.

He’s happy enough debating metaphysics now instead of climbing.

Unfortunately the rumours are true. Robbie and I are brothers. Even worse he is my younger brother and a much stronger climber. It truly is a tragic state of affairs, that I am actively trying to remedy. (The climbing part not the brother part!)

Robbie (and Dave Carrington who lurks on here) are the main Sheigra bouldering developers. I've been a few times and added a couple easier lines, but they take the majority of the credit. We're all Manchester/Peak based so can only really go up to the north of Scotland occasionally. And recently families have grown so that makes it even trickier. Loads still left to do in the North. All along that coast are promising looking spots.

Unclesomebody and I speak fairly regularly. He's working on something big at the moment (non-climbing related) and professes not to climb much. 'Much' is subjective I suppose.
