Send mini vs large
June 16, 2020, 10:52:33 am
I need to bite the bullet and splash out for a knee pad. Will probably get a send one, but torn between the mini and the large and was wondering what people's experience of them is. I have heard mixed reports for both. In my experience from using the large I never really use the top half of it, but some people say the mini doesn't stay put as well. For reference, I have pretty fat thighs.

Cheers all.

Personally I'd go large if you've got bigger thighs, more straps to hold the knee pad in place.

Large definitely slides less IMO. My other half quite likes the mini for being less obtrusive but still uses the big ones for harder knees. (I prefer a slip-on one for situations where you don't want the big pads on, e.g. long onsights where you think there might be a knee or 2 but not loads)

My vote is for the slim mini if you are only getting one pad.

I have used the sleeve pads (homemade and rock'n'resole) for over 15 years.
The slim mini is my go to pad of choice now.  I have an original mini (thicker rubber) that i use for edgy or sharper kneebars.

Occasionally i have borrowed a three strap pad and have hated them.

I climb predominantly on steep Chattanooga area sport routes (sandstone) FWIW

I have stick legs and am really glad I have the large one. Works for everything I have needed it for so far. Borrowed some mini ones in spain and found them way less useful.
