Bolt Workshop - Peak
June 02, 2020, 12:58:07 pm
A few folk expressed an interest in a workshop on bolting on another thread. I'm happy to run a short informal session one evening in the week, subject to following the rules on social distancing etc. This will be on a voluntary basis on my part, for the Peak Bolt Fund, as I'm furloughed atm by the BMC.

It'll be at Horseshoe on some scruffy bit of rock, with a start time of 6pm. Reply on here if wanting to attend (I'll limit numbers to 4 in total) and fill out the Doodle: https://doodle.com/poll/ay2yt9n2cza72ues

It'll be a quick and dirty session but by the end of it you'll know how to place glue-ins properly, plus anything else you want to know about bolting stuff.

Awesome, thanks a lot for doing this.
Ella (my wife) and I have both responded on Doodle with the best dates for us, but we can probably do other days too if those don't work for other people.

Likewise me. I ticked the ones that had ticks already to keep it simple as I am also furloughed, so they all work for me.

Bollocks, I appear to be number 5.

I really do just want a refresher, don't need to actually practice, so would just loiter at the back and listen but no worries if that's not going to work.

OK, Tuesday 16th it is.

I think it'll be fine Iain, come and lurk - it's within the current rules. If we all wear gloves then the issue of sharing tools is covered - you want these anyway as part of the glueing process, so I'll get a box of them sorted out.

Hey All,

The forecast is looking pretty meh for this evening, but I'm still up for giving this a go. Bring waterproofs/umbrellas and we'll see how it goes. Meet at 6pm in the car park at Horseshoe.

I usually find if you spend half an hour improvising a shelter or tarp then the rain holds off! Glad people found it useful - now start pestering Kris for the kit and get out there and prove him wrong about not following up these workshops with action!

Great! I'm giving the other kit to Mark Rankine for now in case anyone needs that kit, and I'll pester Alex to get those videos up on the BMC youtube channel asap.

I asked Jamie to return the drill asap to make the most of the short lived enthusiasm but have not heard back.
Mr Moon also wanted it but ended up buying one instead. I gave him some bolts to re-equip "welcome to my world" on 2 tier left of an old project of mine he had just done. Also some static rope with mallion and ring for the warm up route directly below.

Thanks for running this again Dan.

There's a invite only facebook group that's useful for finding out where kit is and what needs rebolting etc. Message me (James Jacobs) on facebook or on here if you want me to invite you in.

I had planned on having a AGM in spring in an attempt to drum up some enthusiasm but that didn't happen!

Good bolting everyone.

Drill is back but I only have 2/3 of a tube of indate glue. That should be enough for a few bolts. If you want more it needs to be picked up from screwfix or tool station and James can sort out payment I think.

I ordered some already - happy for it to be a contribution to PBF from me if that works for you?

The series of videos I mentioned during the workshop have now appeared on the BMC Youtube channel, and may be of interest.
