FS: 30m half ropes
January 27, 2020, 10:27:05 pm
I just replaced my 30m grit ropes which means I have another pair of brand new 30s for sale ‘cos I had to buy 60s and chop them in half.

Beal Opera Dry Cover. They’re rated as singles as well as halves. 8)

Having 30s for grit not only saves wear and tear on your longer trad ropes but combines the advantages of doubling over one rope (lighter to carry, less slack to fuck about with) with the advantages of using two ropes (they’re different colours, you can get your partner to carry/ coil one, no tying-into-the-middle weirdness when seconding) and are therefore seriously good if you climb on grit or other short outcrops a lot.

I got a good deal so £110 for if you can pick up in Sheffield or the Peak.

Go on then - I'll have em.

Just need a new sports rope then and I'm sorted.

:2thumbsup: I haven’t marked the middles yet (got some of the proper Beal rope marking stuff) but they should be ready for the weekend. Text me.

Inspired by Cheque, I've also bought a pair of 60m halfs that I've cut into two pairs of 30m for grit.

Anyone want to buy the other pair from me?

They are these ropes https://www.bananafingers.co.uk/ropes/beal/opera-85mm-dry-cover which I bought at £118 each (selling at cost - so £118 for the pair of 30m ropes).

Can I just say - I've loved using the two short ropes on grit of late. Not much rope left at the top a route somewhere recently - stanage I think, and I dont think there'd be enough rope for millstone edge given you've got to walk about 20m back from the edge to find a post in some places)  But otherwise. great  :2thumbsup:

I've never owned a pair but did climb at Rylstone once on double 40m ropes. Even having 10m off the length was like the difference between night and day with how much less faff there was.

I had to replace my 30s (well, they’re 20s now ) so have another pair for sale…

These are Camp Spectrum 8.9mm. Like the Beal Operas they’re triple-rated and despite the chunky-sounding nominal diameter they’re the same thickness as them (and even have the same blue & green colours) but feel more robust. Dry treated too. I used mine yesterday and on first impressions I prefer them.

See my original post for the benefits of 30s- basically if you climb trad on grit regularly you need 30s whether you realise it yet or not.  ;)

£112 in person in Sheffield/ Peak, I can post them for a bit more if necessary.
