I got:
  • Green toothbrush (found in the Edge) attached to extendable pole (Carrefour, Font)
  • Big Brown scrubbing brush (found in bucket under mum's sink)
  • Red toothbrush, worn down (used to be my biatch's)
  • Spare white toothbrush, (found at crag)
  • Stiff wooden scrubbing brush (from Morrison's, bought for cleaning a secret crag that never happened)

I also used to carry a mini toothbrush i got free on a transatlantic flight, but Cofe snapped it when he taped it to the end of his pole. Didn't even last a full session.

The best one i ever had was my original brush which served me for years, till receding bristles eventally meant it slipped out somewhere on top of the rainbow slab. I've never found one as good - they don't make toothbrushes like they used to, although i have found one of the same model I'm saving as a treat for some hard project.

Wow, I feel right under-brushed now

All I take out is me little pipe-cleaner thingy! I did have a big scrubbing brush type thing too but I've lost it. I did have a couple of wire brushes and brooms too which I left at a certain crag under a boulder and it was borrowed - PERCY !! Where's me bleedin' brushes?!

I must rectify this immediately and a trip to Halfords must be undertaken urgently to get myself all brushed up.

Wow Mr Flanagan, your site looks amazing! Vids, pics, more info, very cool.

Noticed a picture of a dyno at Binnian in the Mournes called "Trigger". We tried that and its amazing!!! Though none of us did it. There's a wicked pic of one of us on it which you can probably have, I'll hunt it down for you. We did do some other cool problems upto about V5, although I can't remember much about them sat here. Well worth it though. Well done whoever bothered their arse, pro job.

Also, glad to read that someone has finally actuallt done the sit-start to the fin at Glendalough. Can't wait to return...

BTW - I have every type of bruch going. Brush of choice is the suede brush. Stiff yet forgiving.

The Mournes rock looks mint - how grippy is it compared to grit??

Ha ha! I thought that myself!

The Mournes Rock isn't quite as grippy as grit, but then the're hard to compare since the're different rock types. It is fairly grippy as far as granite goes, and is amazing to boulder on. Hell of a long way from the road aswell...

Thanks. Nigel, any info or photos would be kewl.

Yeah, the fin is done. What a disgrace that was...

Are you coming over at Easter?
I think I am going to stay in Ireland for Easter this year though I am thinking about a trip to Brittany at some stage, there are inspirational photos of the granite coast on the web (I have a clipping from the Travel supplement of the Times from a few years ago that talks about "massive boulders", next thing I know it all over OTE )
You should get Pantionio to go and then it could be like a CT picnic but cooler (and with more brushes)

The photos aren't in my possession as I didn't take them, but I'll just get Chris to e-mail me the relevant one(s).

Yeah, come to think of it I would like to go to Ireland at Easter! I'm well psyched by the bouldering over there, add that to the fact that there's new problems to go and I'm searching for cheap flights already! Well not really, since I'm off to Spain for 2 weeks at Easter, but that leaves 2 weeks to try and fit it in. I'll do my best! It is probable that I'll bump into Mr Panton this weekend, so I'll put in a good word for your boulders and see what he says...

Just for the record - who did the Fin and what was the grade? I assume it's being claimed as a First Ascent?

Michael O'Dwyer did it in January. At a guess I would say the grade would be in the region of Font 7b, Michael is not very sure.

I think it would be fair to say its the First Ascent afterall there's nothing to contradict this.

I've always considered taking an electric toothbrush taped to a pole to the crag for a joke, but never got round to it. Has anyone even seen anyone cleaning holds with an electric brush? i recon the old Oral-B would do wonders....

A leccy brush would probably make an excellent tool, especially on the end of a stick, but who would dare use one at the crag - the ridicule would be hard to bear.

And, have you seen the price of replacement heads?

Just dragging this back to the top - so, anyone planned a trip yet?

Not got the OTE, does it give any topos, etc?

I was thinking about going over for Easter instead of Font. The ferry is cheap (50 euro). If Donegal is not worth a immediate return visit I shall go.
There was some topos in OTE I think but not very extensive, anyway I'd say its more a case of pick a line any line....

Found a nice little venue up in Sligo - very similar to that place on the coast near Llandudno - does anyone know the name?

I know, I know, but it's not quite the same!

It was on Aughris Head about 20kms west of sligo town out towards the surfing village of Easky - takes drainage though, so would be a summer venue only - fantastic spot though - very beautiful. No photos I'm afraid. I've got some of the gritstone crags in Leitrim though, I'll email them to you.......

The place I'm thinking of is on the Little Orme, and there's a sequence of Paul Higginson failing on something there in Stick It?? Went when it was first publicised years ago, but can't remember the name of it....
