National Parks review published

There was a major government review announced in May 2018 by Michael Gove (then Environment secretary) on the 10 National Parks and 34 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) with widespread public consultation.

The report has now been published

The report has been reviewed by the BMC and its conclusions welcomed

Amongst other things the report notes: the "interests of recreation users were underrepresented on national park and AONB boards and there were inconsistencies of approach between National Park Authorities" with a "general presumption against multi-user access".

The report recommends major structural reform of the National Parks and AONB’s.

The ball is now in DEFRA’s court to respond to the recommendations.

In that BMC report the look at numbers on different subjects on the Park agendas is shocking. At a quick count I make it

108 Items in total on Governance

55 on 'Other' matters

36 items in total on Planning

26 on Finance

12 on Access and Recreation

2 on Landsacpe

1 on Nature

These look well beyond organisations failing to meet the reasons they were set up in the first place and more deep inside their own colons.

Wow. That's pretty damning.
