I have the Ozito fan thanks to TTs recommendation. It's been brilliant, makes a real difference for bouldering throughout the year.

I like the look of these, but they seem limited to eBay now.

My other recommendation for a garage board is a fan heater (for example https://www.toolstation.com/2kw-space-heater/p92761?store=W1&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&gclid=CjwKCAiAgc-ABhA7EiwAjev-j9pGm8Le6oQGi_cKZ-edumhlxnxWoVNHMVT7je5qs2YRl3XIRkLUeRoC8gMQAvD_BwE). This has made such a difference to my sessions this winter improving both conditions on the holds and general psyche as I can now often end up in a t shirt at the end of a session whereas in previous years I would have been huddled in my down jacket with cold hands.  Have the fan running to move the air around on one side and the fan heater at the back of the garage for taking the edge off the air temperature and giving me something to sit in front of between goes.

As for conditions outside I find it does help on those in between days we often get in the UK when things are climbable but not in good condition. Also it is great for keeping the midges at bay on a summers evening...

I’ve been watching Ozito prices like Pete watches Australian gold mine investments ;)

I think they’ve stopped making them, and Homebase stopped stocking them. There was a week in Oct/Nov when everything ozito was 70% off in Homebase (inc drills and fans) and the stock disappeared rapidly.

There’s an Aldi - Lidl one that pops up every now and then - worth keeping an eye out for come summer time. Though - a quick look on alibaba shows they’re all made by the same companies in china just packed in the right colour/battery config for whoever wants them...

Nice one, thanks. Funnily enough I need a new cordless drill (and could get Makita + batteries), but I'll probably get a Dewalt one and I'm looking at the Aldi fan for the garage, mainly.

Do you need cordless? People seem to favour air-movers when sitting on turbos.

Yeah, for now. No power in the garage and getting it sorted is all tied up in some possible electrical work as part of kitchen/house stuff in the summer. Would rather not do it twice.

Maybe borrow one for winter? Sure they won’t be needed until April/may. If I were closer you’d be welcome to mine.

Cheers. Could do. Not 100% sure I need one yet. Decent session in there tonight.

Just seen this thread for the first time and I'm disappointed to find that it's not about sharing love for 1st gen bouldering pads and yellow Bruce Lee t-shirts.

 :agree:

Even though the title's tricked me into clicking on this thread before, the disappointment's always the same. I still have my Cordless. It gets use from time to time. I should get new foam as the cover's still great even with one or two little holes and some pulled stitching.

I have a Cordless shoulder bag which I still use regularly as an overnight bag. It’s one of the best-designed and well-made pieces of gear I’ve ever owned.

I also have a Makita fan which I’ve used once.

#60 Portable fan
April 25, 2021, 12:48:07 pm
Had quick search on here and couldn't find any info, so here's a new thread/ question.

Anyone use a portable fan to cool fingers at the crag? If so, any reasonable priced recommendations?

Cheers

For Daddlylonglegs..

The Aldi/Lidl ones might be a good option - only on eBay now, but £40-45 for fan and battery...

On the Aldi website they have their one with two batteries and charger for less than fifty at the moment.

Nie that good weather had arrived it’s a bit horrible on our board. It’s inside the house and the window to the room gets sun from about 1pm until 8pm.

It’s making sessions awful!

A friend brought a small travel fan this weekend which made a massive difference and I was wondering if anyone could recommend one for indoors?

We hung his in the open window. Could go for cordless (plenty of Makita batteries here) or for something wired.

Room is about 5x3m so not a massive space to push air around.

If you’ve got loads of makita batteries - the cordless one might be really useful for other stuff too (not as powerful as the one linked above). Used mine for lots of odd drying things (carpet, under kitchen cabinets) - could have used a mains one then I suppose but it is super easy just to plonk it down and let it whirr away.

For my board room (also an office) we’ve a cheapo floor mounted pedestal fan (£15) that works well enough and it rotates side to side giving a bit more coverage…

All fans might be in short supply at the moment though! 🌞

Could just put up a blind, James? We have external blinds on our windows and it keeps the board room cool during the day even when it's toasty outside.

This one. Absolute gamechanger for my fingerboard sessions.

I've probably said this before but people that like torturing themselves on a turbo seem to favour air movers:

I've only ever used them to dry out a house in Florida which had repeated burst pipes beneath the floor (all of the plumbing was done in relatively aggressive soils). The whole house was full of them so my main memory is that they did work but they were relatively loud!

Perhaps unsurprisingly :D that looks like a leaf blower without a nozzle!

Surely that's a wind dab if aimed at the climber?

Thanks for the recommendations. I’d prefer smaller but the one spidermonkey linked to is pretty cheap and would transform the room! I’ll have a think tonight and order something.

We do have blinds, but it’s where I work too so the natural light is good during the day. So wouldn’t like to close them really. Good though though - perhaps I could try it one day and see what it’s like.

Could try some window film on the windows to reduce the solar gain but still have natural light.
