Welcombe Mouth, Culm Coast
June 13, 2019, 01:21:30 pm
I spent a while looking round the tidal area at the northern end of Welcombe, convinced I was about to stumble across another Carnage wall.  Sadly not.  I did however find one decent wall, and did a good burly 7A, The Honesty Box.  Located on the left wall of cave at northern tip of the beach, just cut off at high tide.  Sit start on good undercut in middle of wall, slap up and left on sidepulls to finish round left.  Potential for a much harder start further into the cave.  Would be good, and in the 8A region I imagine.

Upload your image to imgbb.com (other image hosting sites are available).

Copy the link it gives you for the image.

Start a new reply to this thread and click on the icon that looks like a picture of the Mona Lisa above the smileys.

This will put a little bit of code into your reply- the letters img in square brackets twice, the second one with a slash in front of it.  Paste the code from imgbb inbetween the two.

When you post your image should appear.

If you quote this post you'll see what I did differently with the code. You just need the plain address between the "[img]"s basically- imgbb calls it a "viewer link".

Nice one thanks for that.

Basically no other bouldering there, so apart from extending the start from further in the cave, there's nowt else to do bouldering wise. But it's an amazing beach, so can combine nicely with a famiky/lazy day

Hi Ged.

That looks very familiar - very much like a venue I visited with Simon Young - although a lot of these look similar.

Anyway, just a thought. He'd know if there was anything on it.

Is there anything down at Oldwalls Point? Amazing looking stuff down there.

Wouldn't be at all surprised dave. It's pretty obvious.

I'm always left feeling like we are climbing on the Culm about 100,000 years too late. There's so many amazing looking things that have fallen over! Imagine when the carnage wall was 20 metres high! Whenever I wander round there, I'm always convinced I'm about to stumble upon the best bouldering wall in the country. The quest continues...

..and great to hear that it does!  :2thumbsup:

I don't know if there's any mileage in this, but I seem to remember a "crevasse" in the area of rock behind the Red Quinnie cave area, with some potential for something imaginative. Might be complete rubbish, but could be worth another look. I should come down for a bit of prospecting. Long overdue!

Interesting.  Where's that then?

I was at Smoothlands a few weeks ago, and spied some interesting looking stuff on the beach just to the north.  Will go and inspect next time I'm up.

As I recall, it's in the area of rock that descends back down to the beach. Might be a complete waste of time, but I remember it being something you could pad out with mats on the rock (slabby side of the crevasse) behind you, with something along the lip of the overhanging bit in front of you.

I reckon there's something there, and worth doing.

Can you post clotted cream as a gift? Always wondered that  ;D
