Finger Twitch
February 23, 2021, 06:11:42 pm
Hopefully minor concern, but for the last month I've developed a twitch in my left pointer finger, that seems to fire off a couple of times a day when I'm not doing anything in particular, lasts for a couple of minutes and then goes away.

It's not uncontrollable, it will go away if  tense the muscles, but is a bit distracting. It's the finder i use for tapping phone, rolling mouse wheel etc, so could be overuse that set it off. Strength seems unaffected.

Anyone had similar? Anything to sort it out? Mildly concerned with MND in the family, but google says probably not related.

I sometimes get the odd finger flicker, kind of a mini spasm. Had them for years, never thought much of it. Always thought of it a bit like an eye twitch.

Usual caveat, not medical advice, get it checked etc.

Have you been using the finger more than normal?  Any differences in your posture or gait?

How old are you?

51, soon to be 52. Nothing more than normal desk job.

Went from comfy office desk back to slightly less comfortable WFH desk at Christmas, but had the same WFH desk from March to October with no issues.

Your best course of action is first having some blood tests, check for any vitamin deficiencies.  Neurologically there are conditions where this can be a first symptom e.g. Parkinson Syndrome. Of course that's a big leap to consider simply from having a slight twitch or tremor!  Stress can often trigger these issues too - are you stressed?

I'll get to a doc once things ease up a bit.

Full time at a new job, teaching 2 kids from home, life? Yeah, stress level is at a reasonably constant moderate to high level.

Mouse pad with wrist support may be doing more harm than good?

Wide gel lump to rest wrist on just by pulse

As a bit of wild speculation - it might be. Could be compressing the carpal tunnel region.  Try not using it and see?
