I've posted this to get some feel of how much UKB might make from donations so please don't vote yes unless you are sure you would actually take the time to donate.

It might be worth having another poll that gets an idea of amount people would donate.

Some people would prefer to donate, and some to buy merchandise. Since a donate via paypal button is so easy to set up, it doesn't really matter how much people would donate, as anything is better than nothing.

I don't like sites that specify an amount, like "please donate $20" as it puts people on the spot. Some people on ukb are students/unemployed and some are earning a lot of money, so if those who would donate just donate what they think they can spare, then it's all good.

I've voted yes but I guess it would be with the proviso that it's an absolute piece of duff to do so. My personal organisation is dreadful (nearly lost my license last week for failing to produce, and have expenses waiting to be claimed since April) so if I had to find my cheque book, envelope and a stamp it wouldn't happen, but if I could sit here and click a button every time the site really entertained me then I'd donate.

In light of Beejoy asking for the truth i.e. whether one would REALLY ACTUALLY donate rather than just say yes, I'm going to have a little think about it and see if I feel that I value the site enough to pay money towards it (given one is used to getting every free online...).

At the moment I'm thinking I might have see how it goes for longer.

To be entirely honest I very rarely donate to sites myself......but then I would buy a t-shirt or similar instead.....if they were nice.

I think your right with the T shirt idea Bubba... to people who just use the site now and then would be more interested in buying a nice UKB t shirt then makeing a donation.. I think

I wouldn't normally donate to a site but i think in this instance I may well do, especially if there is just a paypal button floating round and no set ammount as to how much you should donate.

I dont normally donate to sites, as most people that ask for donations are just out to make money,


But in this case, we all know that bubba is putting it all in himself, to have a site thats add free.

Anyone that runs a site knows how much these things really cost. I would happely buy a T-shirt, and donate, purly because i dont want this site to be spoiled by marketing.

But I totally agree, you should not ask to donate £10/20 you should leave it down to the user. Most people will donate more if you dont ask for a fixed fee

Shame you can't charge a penny per post. Would hurt no ones pocket but the money would build up.
Or, second thoughts, cut out the middleman and just make Dave pay the bills :wink:

Yes I would definitely donate now. Although since I joined I've always found the site useful and entertaining, having been to Font with Jim and the incredible D, which was great and wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been a visitor here, I'm really grateful for that and would happily donate.
