Abs
February 22, 2019, 07:30:29 am
Wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Every now and then when I am sat on the floor doing something like putting my boots on, one of my abs just pops out of alignment. Its' generally about three inches long and I just push it back gently and all is well. Its not painful, just a bit odd

I don't think it's a hernia, as it has happened on both sides over the years but could well be.

Cheers

It does sound odd.

The description is a little vague, though.
But, I’m pretty sure it’s not something you should ignore. If I had a client presenting something similar I would be strongly encouraging them to seek medical advice.
I know a boy (~12yrs) whose left collar bone is mobile and he can control it’s movement. Really odd to watch, but it’s not “right” and we have to modify his training accordingly.

I occasionally get ab spasms while doing similar activities - generally after a long day climbing so probably when dehydrated. It's always the same ab that bulges out like a little fist, but mine is very painful. Feels like I'm being stabbed. I just have to lie down, stretch it out and drink water and it goes away. Weird that yours is painless..

I raised this a while back and Nibile said he had something similar.

Also have something similar, just assumed it was some sort of muscular spasm when fatigued

I didn’t get the impression the op was talking about a cramp/spasm.
That hurts.
And, I think everyone would feel that from time to time.
I wouldn’t describe the knot, of the spasm, as “displaced” either.
Massaging the knot, usually, relieves it, but is that “pushing it back in”?
But, hey, maybe.

The spasm I get is on a singular ab every time (always the same ab) and it looks like the ab has flipped up a little. But only happens when I'm fatigued really

Cheers for the advice guys.

All sort of sounds familiar. It could be any or all of those things.

It definitely forms a bit of a limp and feels like it has moved forward.

First time it happened was about 18-20 years ago on the right during sit ups.

More recently it’s on the right in a similar place.

It could be related to a few years ago when I had an operation that cut straight down through the centre of the abs and the area where it pops out now was the same area that ached the longest during recovery..........although I’d forgotten about that until now.
