Rock Climbing Technique - the book is here!
September 27, 2018, 09:40:17 am
I'm psyched to announce I've finally published a practical guide to climbing movement! YYFY! :dance1:
Those of you that know me will know this is something I've been focused on in my own climbing, as a coach, and generally obsessing over for a good decade. The book is my attempt to make this knowledge available to as many climbers as possible in a more affordable way than coaching.
It's presented in a non-nerdy way and is designed to be a very practical technique manual. If you're climbing in the font 6s or 7s, it could make a significant difference - I went from F7A to 8A applying it, with no campusing ,deadlifting or energy systems training  ;)
If you've got any questions about it or for me, please ask!

I bought a copy, first impressions are very good. I'll do a review here when I've had a chance to put some of it into practice.

Anyone had chance to read this and put it into practice? I'm interested to hear how applicable it is to those of us who have been climbing for many years and so will be looking for relatively subtle technique improvements.
Or, John, maybe you can comment? It sounds from your original post that the book is intended for experienced climbers?

I have a copy, have been climbing many years and I think it is a great book.

The book could be for an individual of any level but I think a more experienced and more technical climber will get more from it. This is because many of the exercises covered require a deep understanding of your own climbing to really grasp and benefit from. I.e. to really grasp the subtly of the technique you are looking to exercise. Especially if implementing them on your own.

So I guess in answer to your question the more subtle the improvement required the more you need this book!

I can see myself returning to this book over and over to delve into new ways to improve my technique. Highly recommend for all.

Thanks. I'd got the impression that it went beyond the basics but good to have this confirmed.

This is intriguing, can you give an example?

I can confirm (it’s happened to me) that having butt squeeze shouted at you as you’re about to set fly with that important dead point is not conducive to doing the problem.

For those wishing to be able to climb under a barrage of severe heckling, may I suggest a Depot Tuesday night board session?

Bad call. Butt squeeze should have been shouted when you hit the hold
