Varazze (specifically finding rampage)
September 25, 2018, 10:10:38 am
I'm in varazze and would really like to find rampage but the current guidebook is out of print so I'm using old online topo's and my instincts... Which isn't working.

Could someone direct me to rampage? Descriptions, photos, hand drawn maps, whatever you like... Thanks!

This link has GPS coordinates - don't know if that's helpful?

Brother.
I don't know why you are in Varazze, land of the razor crimp, of the snappy hold and of the nonsense eliminates.
Anyway, Rampage is notoriously hard to find even with the guidebook  and features a long walk.
I wouldn't venture there without a guide.
Also, I think it's on a small terrace, which maybe isn't exactly suitable for children.
In any case, I'll try to find some info.

And a video to give you an idea of the drive in.

Also, I would like to point out the following:
- 3 minutes of driving to the crag;
- the magic pads trick;
- the magic cameraman trick;
- the seductive soundtrack;
- the Nepalese flags;
- the general disgusting affected vibe.
All for an 8a! An 8a! A fucking 8a!
8a isn't worth an own video since 2002! Or unless you're 12 years old!

I love that he starts hiking with 1 pad, then magically finds a second pad along the hike, then apparently someone had stashed two more at the boulder!!  I want to have that day out :) Scoring 4.5 pads when you only start w 1.5!  :dance1:

With some real time motivation and help from nibile I found the boulder... Although went an epic way. Suffice to say its straightforward to find once you know the way. I'll post up a map or a gpx once I get on a laptop.

Rampage itself is absolutely stunning. Easily one of the very best boulders I have ever seen. It's so good that I'm even willing to forgive the couple of sharp crimps it has. It should be on anyone's tick list.

Unfortunately I didn't manage it in a session but will go back in a few days once the skin has healed. Maybe Monday if anyone fancies joining...

While I fancy it, I don't think the flight from Alaska is gonna happen this year...

Good luck!
