The conservation bodies that keep an eye on these sites have informed the BMC that there are seals pupping with young seals present at these beaches and bouldering areas, and are asking folks (inc. climbers) to avoid these areas until the end of November (or until the seals are mature enough to fend for themselves).

It's not so much fend for themselves, it's more they are big enough! Disturbed seal colonies tend to panic and large fast moving adults will charge for the water, often crushing young ones to death.
