British crags in films
September 21, 2018, 09:33:40 pm
Inspired by a recent post showing a shot of Gordale in the Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell program/film. I was just wondering what other films (or tv shows) feature British crags?

Off the top of my head apparently Malham is in Harry Potter, and my personal favourite is Gordale waterfall being featured in The Dark Crystal (unfortunately I can't find a clip of this online).

Anyway, what have you guys got? Wad points for links to clips.

Kilnsey (and the Tenants pub) were in Calendar Girls. Along with the Kilnsey show.

I’ve been turned off (gently asked if I could do my climbing elsewhere) twice by Emmerdale filming at das Cliff

I thought that was actually in the Ballahulish slate quarry near Glencoe, but could be wrong.

Hound Tor is in an episode of BBC's W.I comedyJam and Jerusalem, which I'm unashamed to have a soft spot for.

From the days when the BBC could afford stars like Peter O'Toole, the 1976 TV film of Rogue Male.

Sir Robert Hunter about to be pushed off the top of Deceiver Buttress, Wintour's Leap. GO wall in the background and the river Wye showing an unlikely tidal range for somewhere supposedly in Bavaria.

I always liked this python sketch at Ilkley.

Stanage has featured in various period dramas, Japanese tourists still visit to see Keira's rock.

ITV set a police soap opera in Widnes/Runcorn. The opening episode featured a chase through the little wood on top of Pex, though you would have thought they were running through a vast forest from the way it was edited.

Great thread.

game of thrones has some epic looking geological settings. Many in NI. Not sure if there is any climbing but be surprised if not.

The Night Digger from 1971. Never watched it but the crag cameo is the finale at 1 hour 36 mins. Any guesses where?

Watched it a couple of weeks ago and it does say in the credits that it is filmed entirely on location in Scotland.

I'm sure that Hollyoaks or Brookside filmed someone getting shoved from the top of The Knife at Pex.

Yep! Too easy right? This thread needs a spoiler alert, as I guess I've basically ruined the end of that film for anyone who clicks on my link: don't know the story but ends when guy decides to Evil Knievel it off the top of Bosigran getting snagged up on Ledge Climb while his classic vintage British motorcycle continues to tumble on down Little Brown Jug - tragic.

Not technically a film and definitely not romantic.
