FS: Used board and pad
September 11, 2018, 11:57:10 am
It's the end of an era and the board is coming down. I have two t-nutted 8ft by 4ft ply boards and a roughly 7ft by 5ft gym style yellow pad. The pad is in excellent nick, but I used mostly screw-ons on the boards so they have plenty of holes in them! I've also got lots of bits of wooden beam from the frame you can help yourself to.

100 for the lot. PM for pics. Collect North Leeds.

It's more asbestos than garage I think. Wouldn't want to shake the flakes down  :ninja:

Ben, my understanding is that asbestos tiles (if that is what we're talking about here), are only a threat if your start drilling into them or smashing them up so that fibres become airborne. Asbestos fibres are present in the air around you now, probably, but in very small quantities. I don't think climbing on a board on a presumably concrete floor is going to do you any harm.

I suspect asbestos is not the main reason for not converting the garage to a training den; it's rumoured that proper adults have more important, and "adult" considerations than climbing... crazy!

But just in case, my understanding is that asbestos in mineral cement roofing panels is comparatively safe - generally only a risk if degraded and friable / fire damaged / broken-up / drilled, so fibres are released onto the air. Much asbestos doesn't need a special license to remove or work on.  The really nasty stuff is the sprayed-on lagging and insulation.  Lots of information on the HSE site:

I can say with near certainty that Ben holds his breath when he goes into that garage. And then lies awake at night worrying that some fibres might have entered his body some other way.

Crikey..... not good... if it's really that scary, can you get it removed / or have an asbestos survey done?   The likes of Rhodar deal that that kind of thing, (this is not a personal endorsement, mind, I have just come across them at work).
