Could there be an argument for using rock ring type setup, so that the palms can rotate? WOuld that reduce elbow stress?

I think the Anderson brother’s book says that you should only ever do pull-ups on rock rings for the reasons that you (and Duncan above) mention.

On reflection (after taking to teestub) i think that really, if you want to do pull ups on a fingerboard and it will make a boring activity more interesting, do it (but build up slowly).

I think developing your own method which holds your interest and makes you try hard will be far more effective than adhering to some pre- cooked "power plan" based on some half baked sports physiology.

Re Nibile's point: It wont turn you into Philippe le Denmat, you will still have to be able to climb properly to get up sh*t

 :agree:

As noted on other threads, you can have the best training plan in the world, but if you aren’t sticking to it, you can put it in the drawer next to the chocolate teapots.

The obvious caveat to Tim's post, is that if/when you find what hurts you, treat it with caution. For some that may be pull-ups on fingerboards, for others it may be repeaters, some can do what the hell they want (lucky buggers). What makes one person strong makes another broken, and using others' experiences might give you a clue about how you'll find it but it's a clue only...

You were dead good at weighted pull ups, couldn't climb anything.  Did more climbing, could climb betterer.
