Or, can anyone tell what the fuss is about Gmail being bad in some way? So what if the US govt. can read the mail- surely that isn't just restricted to Gmail the way they're going???

i've got 4 invites if anyone wants one, instead of playing a guessing game

as far as i can see, some people objet to a clause in the privacy policy that says that google may forward emails to governmental agencies if asked to do so...so organising your wholesale drugdeals with gmail probably isn't too wise...

There was 102 invites on that site just now!

Yeah, it's the privacy policy that's the problem.

I think it's handy to have an easily searchable inbox but wouldn't use gmail for anything "sensitive" anyway.

For those of you who use Outlook, check out the excellent Lookout which offers gmail style searching and is very fast even on huge inboxes.

But hang on, fair enough what they say on that site but how will the feds catch up? All I had to do was choose an email address and a password, that was it. How will they find me?

Everything you do on the web leaves a trace of IP's that will eventually point back to your ISP - if the gmail servers log access (and they will) it's not hard to trace you at all.

I always use proxify for doing anything sensitive online - it's only £12 quid a year, and if you also use the Firefox proxy plugin you can find a proxy in...say...China and go via that to proxify and then on to your dastardly web deed.

Paranoid? Maybe, but a whole lot safer than just doing it from a fixed IP adsl account.

i read it all through (for once...) and didn't really object to anything. i mean, i use my gmail for emailing agencies, mates, college stuff etc...also for emailing big graphics files to myself...nothing too heavy. unless they want to nick me for crimes against good taste in music i think i'm safe  :drink:
