Good work on the 4/5 shark.

No mention in the article of how strava figured out it was quitters day. A drop off in activity perhaps? But maybe those Christmas pounds have already been shed?

Regardless, January is still going strong on a daily basis over here. Always able to make time in the day for kettlebells and 5 minute abs. No excuse not to really...

1st - Weight session, dumbells tri and bicep.
2nd - Core Session
3rd - going to the wall later, approx 2 hour session.
4th - walk with kids not fast, but got out at least.
5th - theraband and weights session
6th - pool half hour while kids in lesson. Probably about 1 km.
7th - not a massive amount - some stretching, but doing some beaver leader training and spent 2/3 hours in cinema with last Jedi.
8th - lunchtime run - 7 km, 40 mins. cleared out garage in evening, backbreaking. Cracked out a couple of deadlifts.
9th - weight session
10th - bouldering session at wall
11th - ski touring at Glenshee. Cheated a bit as used one Poma to save time, but skinned to top of Glas Moel, dropped west side (icy as hell) back to bottom, then batted out a couple of laps on the pomas before heading home. In spite of mediocre conditions a grand day out.
13th - light beastmaker session plus a few deadlifts.
14th - pool session while kids in lesson - managed 1150m in the half hour - crawl and breaststroke alternating
15th - treadmill run - half hour.

3.5 weeks in - missed two days.

One day in London with work i fell off the wagon and did no exercise and ate a fatty curry.

Another day life admin got in the way and i only managed some light stretches and mobility exercises.

Otherwise feeling pretty fit and flexible; did a good starfish in pilates last night - odd being the bendiest there

Very good Cheque.

For the record I'm still not boozing - last beer was on 1st Jan. Feeling very good for it, much better quality of sleep and mood.

Now if only there was a way of not fancying a beer, then I'd be fine to knock it off totally. Guess that's the harder habit to kill off. Thank goodness for Brewdog Nanny State, that's all I'm saying.

:D

Still managed not to take the piss out of Shark on social media. Though on FB he posted up asking for a replica of the oak to be created at awesome walls... which tested me.

Exercise wise I’ve done nothing since Friday. Sat on a plane and working in tropical Australia where it’s raining quite a lot several times a day (and c.30 degrees) which makes exercise (a) unappealing and (b) logistically difficult.

Sharkathon still going strong over here. So far I've done 30+ minutes every day except one, and on that day I still did a good bit of flexibility stuff. Some days you gotta rest!

Didn't think folk would be interested in running commentary, already put a lot of it out there in powerclub. But maybe as we get towards the fag end of January folks drive has abated somewhat. Hard to tell, Most normal people have allegedly already given up by now, but us lot aren't normal.

Anyway, today's entry:

Today I didn't have breakfast. That's weight loss progress sorted. Anyone struggling with their weight, try it you might like it. Later on I'll do my kettlebell and 5 minute abs routine and do all my stretches. Friday is what passes for a rest day as I've got kids to look after and stuff.

I'm still on it. I had one day off the exercise on the 5th Jan (which was basically NYE catching up with me).

Bit of cycling on way to work and back makes it a bit easier mind.

Always believed that breakfast kicked your metbolism out of night time shut-down mode back into full operating mode so skipping it actually means you're burning calories more slowly than you would had you eaten it?

I was on a "8 hour window" fasting programme which meant I wasn't having breakfast and it seemed to be working well helping me trim down a touch, alongside not boozing.

I say "was" as I was hit with a shitty cold this week so I've reverted back to filling my face with carbs in an effort to make myself feel better. Back on it next week though.

Think the counter-argument I read (albeit on unscientific, unregulated blog posts) was that after c.12-14 hours you're in a "fasted state" so your body is burning fat more effectively. Plus I guess you're also not putting any more calories in.

I actually didn't find it as much of a struggle as I'd have thought, and if anything one of the benefits was making me think a bit more about what I did eat when I was in "the window".

Whether that is true or not I don't know. I've seen studies that say the opposite is true, but who can ever believe studies on what humans eat or really understand exactly what type of people they were experimenting on and so on. But we can be pretty certain that any advantage/disadvantage from the feeding window is going to be relatively small. I don't know, 100 calories a day or so. Meanwhile, by putting off eating until 2pm it's so easy to generate a 500 calorie deficit for the day and move an increment closer to fighting weight.

Also, in my personal experience, I am able to run and climb just as well with or without breakfast. I don't feel sleepy or light headed even at 2 or 3pm.

Read the stuff on the other thread now, thanks for starting that discussion, duncan. Looks like I was mistaken and do recall D-Mac blogging about it previously now, running in a fasted state so that he burned body fat once the gycogen stores were depleted.
I'll read some more but it sounds like IF might work for me, I do have stubborn fat that has resisted all attempts to shift it. Not sure how I'd cope without a morning coffee though.

No need to drop it. It’s the lunatic fringe of the IF movement that say you can’t have it.

Black, of course.

One day to go. End in sight.

After a completely dry January I'm not sure what to predict for February. Hopefully just a bit damp or maybe intermittent showers

Stumbled into Feb with a duffed shoulder which meant the cycles to work and a couple of walks at the weekend as my final contributions.
