December 30, 2017, 08:01:51 am
Enjoy the next couple of days then kick start the New Year with Sharkathon  :boxing:

The only rule is 30 mins of any type of exercise for every day of January.  :read:

Feel free to state other aims for the month - going dry, weight loss..

I’m going to take the brave step of attempting to: not take the piss out of Shark on any form of social media.

I expect to lose 5kg and gain a font grade as a result.

I'm in as usual...I hearby swear I will:-

1. Make an attempt at cutting some percentage of my alcohol consumption.
2. Lose 1.5kg of Christmas lard
3. Since I always do 1h of walking per day, I'll add 15m of someting climbing related.
4. At least 1 bm session per week. If only able to get to the wall or outside once this week be increased to two sessions.

Very poor end of year for me, too much work, too little sleep and horendous weather. But at least my wedding next year is paid for.....now I can sleep again.

30 mins is a bit much for me to commit to, particularly as 1st Jan is first of seven 13 hour days for me. Instead.....

3 finger board sessions over next 7 days of any form.
10 min HIT training sessions the majority of days of January to kick start getting back to fighting weight.
After initial run of work, back to a month of hard bouldering at any opportunity.

I reckon 4-5kg isn't impossible for me, but I rarely take the piss out of shark on social media so not sure how I'll achieve that.

I'm in.

Personal sub-rules:
- stretching counts. I have woeful flexibility so anything which gives me the incentive to address this regularly is a good thing.
- counting a walk to/from work is pulling the emergency ripcord, since whilst it's >30mins it makes it too easy (and 30 min flexibility work is way more valuable than a walk to work)

Other thing I want to try to do is cut out some of the more obvious junk food in my life; the start of a gradual glide towards fighting weight for Font at Easter...

The missus has in theory signed up to the concept of joining me in my quest too.

I'm in - permanent home worker now, so need incentive to get out the house, even in shitty January weather.

Personal goal of shifting 2kg of festive lard before February week away.

I'm in too. There is much blubber and weakness that needs shifting. Similar to AJM I reckon stretching and general pre-hab counts.

Lots of blubber to shift. Was a year-high of 69.5kgs just now. That's verging on overweight. I'll need to get down below 65 by the end of the month to feel like 2018 isn't just going to be a repeat of 2017.

Today: 30 minute run & simple kettlebell routine.

Still on track. Log splitting yesterday. Silage forking and feedbag stacking today. Currently fingerboarding in a campus rung screwed to a beam in the barn. Not eaten potatoes, bread, dessert or touched alcohol.

Some pressures to resist. In particular dad looked crestfallen when I said I wouldn't be having a pint if I came down the pub.

Having had an enforced Jan off the ale last year in the runup to TTT v2.2's birth I figured I'd do it again.

Had a good last supper on New Year's Day at our usual family lunch / drink up the leftover Xmas booze-a-thon but that's it. Nowt since then.

Exercise has been a bit more hit and miss thanks to (great way to start the year) nagging impingement-y feeling in right shoulder. Regular steady gym work starts next week.

Week 1: Success; shifted a little lard too (-0.5kg)

Managed the requisite 30+min per day, even if was only a quick core and antagonist session pre-shopping on Saturday morning.

x1 G&T, x1 beer; room for improvement.

1/1 - at in laws house. Random pushups, sit-ups, dips etc
2/1 - drove home, work pm. Again, random pushups, sit-ups, planks etc
3/1 - I forget detail, probably more of the same, likely some stretching too
4/1 - fingerboard. Fingers felt a bit creaky, so it wasn’t a terribly good session, feeling a bit grumbly and unstable in 2-finger pockets
5/1 - weighted pull-ups (bw+10), 3 sets of 5, plus other stuff
6/1 - light, stretching
7/1 - glorious sunshine so outside. Cold wind but I thought a low swell forecast, sun, and a howling north easterly straight onto Force Majeure would make the hoods grippy like Velcro as long as I didn’t freeze to death. First sight of the Bill from the road down from Southwell and I could see white horses, then I got nearer and saw spray over the top of some of the dws sectors. Parked up with diminishing hopes, and found the platform under FM awash and the spray making it onto the cliff top (video on Instagram story). High tide and far more swell than the forecast might have suggested. Went round to the other side just in case and the ledges there were awash too. So I went back to the cuttings, took a little pad, and went for an explore. Main objective was to check out Snowflakes, Sit-start (f7A+) which looked really good in the guide - found this, looks good, made reasonable progress on the stand (6C+), first few moves done maybe one tough move left where the arête changes angle, but would need more of my pads and maybe a spotter too. I looked at the sit, not entirely firing all cylinders because of the cold but it looks hard, guess it has to be to squeeze 2 extra grades out of two moves. Went for a wander further after that - Ajare (f6C) and the other problems on that block look worth a go, Hogijiberry (7A+) looks hard and the indirect to its right a little confusing as to whether the foot block is in - hard/awkward without but probably not 7A with?

Not really been timing but something each day still, good to reset the habit after a lot of training disruption in my son's first year. Started to trim the weight down too, hopefully 73kg by next weekend where I'll reverse that on holiday  i suspect.

Bit concerned as to what the project soaking on Sunday means as my 7B pyramid winter goal is a little reliant on that being the 7B as it's the only one I've found so far that I reckon I can do!

For all those aiming to shed some weight post-holidays this may make interesting reading:

https://examine.com/nutrition/meta-minimizing-fat-gain/

The article suggests that most people fail to lose all the excess weight gained over holiday periods, leading to very gradual weight gain as we age:

Quote from:  examine article
This isn’t an issue in-and-of-itself, since any added poundage can be lost during other parts of the year. But that doesn’t appear to be the case for most people. Several studies have found that weight gain during the holiday seasons is not lost during the spring and summer months, suggesting that holiday treats may be a key player in the slow, insidious weight gain most adults observe with age.

What does "most people" mean?

The 99.99995% of the population who have not climbed the Oak. Well that’s what my Google Home tells me - so it must be correct.

Anyway - happy Birthday 🎂
