Indoor climbs on 8a.nu
September 03, 2004, 12:13:13 pm
I was looking thu 8a.nu this morning and i saw a couple of scorcards that had listed indoor problems from the school.  Since when have they allowed people to do this?  I only spotted these ones because i recognized the name of the wall, but i wouldn't know the names of the climbing walls in other countries.  It kind of undermines the efforts of other people that use 8a.  not that i care that much.

I couldn't figure out how to link the scorecards to here, but they are number 17 and 23 in the top uk boulderers list.  i don't mean to pick on these guys if you know them, theres probably more like them but i only looked for a couple of minutes.

fair enough, didn't mean to dis, just didn't know it was allowed

so who else here has a scorecard.  I was thinking of creating one but then i realized i'd be ranked 40something in the uk, so i might wait til i do some harder stuff.

I'm pretty sure putting indoor stuff on 8a.nu is just about the lamest thing going. I also recon theres people doing it asside from the comedy fictional scorecards!

also lame are those guys claiming trad grit routes in the routes section (its for sport routes) generally with strange grade comparisons!

for my sins i've got one:

http://www.8a.nu/cgi-bin/scorecard/show.cgi?view=2207&page=2

alwayd hard to put a grade on something when most of what I do i given B-grades, but i've tried to be fair. some stuf in retrospect might be a bit high, but theres also stuff in at way below what the guide says so it should all 3even out. and before anyone slags me for being sad and putting in even easy stuff, i'm using it as sort of a log for anything hard and anything notable regardless of grade, cos unlike route i don't write down date or whatever of problems.

The whole thing is a bit wank imho - I view the scorecards as just a bit of a laff, they don't mean that much.

People can bullshit, and I mean indoor grades are a bit fucking daft - what happens when people start adding problems from their own woodies and stuff? And what of all the hard climbing folks who don't have one?

yeah its just a laugh realy, but if you're going to play you might as well go with the rules. i wouldn't take the ranking seriously though, I mean Si-o, 1st? you're having a giraffe. nice to see pete marsh catching him up though.

I've got one, and I'm 40-somethingth I think, but I just use it to keep track of what I've done.  I put good problems on there, and the hardest few, a lot of the grades are probably out on mine because most of the guides I use give V-grades and they use Font.

Mostly I find it's easier putting it in there than on paper.  Plus I'm getting paid whilst I'm doing it,  anyway  ;)
