Need to improve on running. A lot. Fun event though!

At least you didn't get birded by the misses ;-)

You must be about as bad at running as I am  :o

With a "best" time in the 14min range, that must have been a tough run!!

Yep, I couldn't let her win, even though it was her birthday.

I've not actually run at all since the late 80s (I think I did about 2 k once about 3 1/2 years ago), and just started running again last month as training for this event, so there's room for improvement! I'm actually enjoying doing something I'm terrible at and seeing great gains, unlike everything else I do where I'm either on a plateau (surf, snowsports, MTB) or getting worse (climbing).

Yes, Sas it was a cross country course, basically a track mowed into open grassland, so pretty tussocky, taking in a couple of short steep hills, and very uneven tussocky ground. And some of the top finishers have placed highly in extreme triathlons like the  celtman http://cxtri.com/

I spent several years doing local tris, and quite a few off-road style races, and have a hard time imagining a 3K race with 4:40/Km best times.  Even the hard ones were typically still in the 18-19min /5k range, so 3:40-3:50ish/K.

My watch had the run as actually 3.4km, which makes a bit of difference.

Whenever I see this thread title pop up, I just want to post 'don't' ;)
