Which canon slr..

Of the current crop of canon cameras around £1000 what would the ukb collective buy ? Mostly sporty type stuff with some landscape thrown in. Drawn to the 80d but would appreciate advice.

Have you looked long and hard at mirrorless before you go down the DSLR route (I'm assuming you have Canon fit lenses knocking about)?
Do you have reservations about buying used? I paid <£1000 for a 5DII a fair time ago now (the 80D is on Harrisons for ~£800).
If by sporty stuff you mean faster moving things than climbers then as you were

Yup got a number of canon lenses from an older slr that's past its best by some margin. Always wanted a 5 from the first generation but have never been able to justify the expense, interested in second hand but the shutter counter numbers often look high ? What kind of numbers should I be looking for, any examples...

Honestly I don't know, I've read about the expected shutter life of various levels of Canon DSLRs but I've never really looked at mine (and it hasn't fallen off yet).
If you're buying from the reputable used dealers (i.e. Harrison's) I'd wager you'd be fine (ALL of my DSLR lenses and the DSLR itself are from there and I haven't had a single issue).
You never know I might sell my 5 soon!

the 5d mk2 is good but not what i would call a sport camera, tho i do shoot some sport things with it. the new 7d mk2 looks better and they are starting to come up second hand to. harrisons offer a 12 month warranty on second hand but tend to be a bit more expensive. also check out ffordes second hand too. as for shutter count, i think my 7d is at 280,000 and still hanging in there.

First question really is Full Frame or Crop... Might be driven by what lenses you have, but each has its merits.
70D and 80D both get good reviews, 7D mk2 is a beast but is probably more of a specialist wildlife/sports camera and you pay a premium for it.
6D prices are dropping pretty well if you fancy full frame, think they're under £1,000 for grey import. Doesn't have super-fast AF, but as others mentioned, depends what you're shooting.
Also the 5D mk2 always gets slagged off for slow focussing but people used it for years to get great shots, so it's all relative.
Note, come August most (all?) camera manufacturers are raising prices quite a bit (10-30% if rumours are true), so act soon if buying new.

I've always fancied full frame but the expense of changing lenses has put me off so far.
The shutter life of Canon's is pretty good to 150,000 at least (if you ever get there...) but the part X value does drop pretty quickly as is to be expected when you start racking the shots up (there's good freeware called EOSInfo for finding out the shutter actions)
One thing to note is that the 80d is designed to be used for video as well as photography, as opposed to it being a secondary function, so if you're making films it's a good choice, the auto focus is supposed to be muuuch faster and more accurate for doco work for example. For the same reason, the 70d is also a good choice.
I'm very shortly upgrading from the 650d to a 70d mostly because they're trading at good prices at the moment as compared the 80d, but that will change when there are more on the market

I've got a 6D and a 7D, since getting the 6D I've not really used the 7D at all unless I needed the extra reach of the crop. Focusing wise the 6D is very good but only on the centre focus point, it's performed very well in dark woodland shooting DH MTB events. I think I got mine from Panamoz for £950 new.

dont get me wrong, the 5d mk2 is great, just not when the light gets low. i have shot everything on the 5d, climbing, mtb, product, weddings, portraits, landscapes and its been awesome. only when shooting bands, or in bars and clubs do i find it suffers. so like durbs said, it comes down to what lenses you have and what you will be shooting.

Thanks for the above posts. Still pretty confused as there is lots to compare at this price point, 80d, 7d MK2, second hand 5d MK2 and the 6D. I've never been one for filming stuff as I'm terrible at editing but would still like the option, just not top of my list. Out of the 4 lenses I have only one is aps-c, a sigma 17-70 that's seen better days. All of the options are way better than the 60d I've been using. I just don't want to regret the decision after 6 months.
