Woodwell Carnage
July 17, 2016, 11:46:36 am
:o :o :o Just been Tom's Buttress and basically the whole left hand section has fallen down from What's This For leftward and including the aptly named Art of Self Destruction. Looks like trees roots have gotten in behind and pried it off over time.

Good news is that there's some hard projects for anyone brave enough! Will try to post pics later.

Holy hell. I've been there a few times recently to try finish something off on that buttress and it's been wet for weeks. Mixed feelings of being gutted I'll have to cross it off my ticklist and grateful that I wasn't underneath it. I'm intrigued to see what's left behind.

Keen to see what's left! Always meant to go back and do that crap looking campus across crimps problem to arbitrary finish.

Shit me. It was a tossup whether we were stopping at Woodwell on Saturday afternoon on the way up, looks like either A a lucky escape there, or B missed my chance to try Art of Self Destruction.

This was taken last month. Maybe it was a good thing I was injured and couldn't climb, as I may have pulled it down!

Look at those tree roots. Hanging in space with no more little crevices to burrow into. Bet they don't feel so clever now, do they? Tree root twats.

:o  :'( some local classics/nemeses gone. I once injured a pulley on a family walk there, deadhanging the Art of Self Destruction crimps without warming up,  happy days  ::)

So sorry. I've always loved Woodwell and always wanted to get there. Don't know why but I've always thought that I could do well in such a place.
Oh well.

Which ticks can I claim honoris causa by general consensus?

None. It's not that good nibs, it's a good local venue.

It was always worth the drive for me. A lovely setting, the smell of wild garlic, bluebells under the trees, lowball problems.

Fantastic memories of Crouch eating 10kg of mixed cheeses before writing off the session and napping all day on the bouldering mat. What a crag.

It's my least favourite sector of Woodwell but it would have been nice to do Art Of. Oh well.

I went down to Woodwell on Friday to see the damage. I've included some photos for you guys :)

The area to the left of AOSD is also quite unstable...

Extreme shame -loved this place.  Kaizen was awesome andalways a goal. AOSD was amazing, and also Crucifix Kiss Footless, Beauty of Being Numb, and it goes on.  Just as bad as Roadrunner going down in flames.

Looks like Closer (and problems to the right) have gone - using the front image of my vid of it for comparison:

Still, I don't have to get crucifix kiss done now :) silver linings and all that... ;)

Going to need a crowbar team to clear that.
