Ariege Bouldering
May 17, 2016, 09:53:21 pm
Since I'm  no longer in Cornwall, but I still have the same desire to poke around and boulder, I thought I'd start a thread. Although the Ariege isn't known for its bouldering, I've found more than I thought, there are known areas like Orlu and Laramade, but there is so much more. I've been here eight weeks and haven't climbed inside once. Potential is massive, I've found areas that have barely been scratched at, if you can boulder 8B and highball, there is a very sweet area. Basically I don't know where to start, so I go to Targasonne and Laramade which is 30 secs from the carpark!

I'm struggling to find any info. There are a few old topos and there are obviously a few peeps operating at a highish standard, i've been up a few valleys, spotted boulders in the trees, jumped out of the car, run up the hill, to discover chalk marks etc, but they are all I would think 7 and 8's, there you go then.

I have only sampled the bouldering at Orlu but I would agree that it is pretty good. Slightly disconcerting that the topo I had warned to look out for bears!

Further up the the valley at Orlu there is some seriously big boulders, maybe a good place for bears to live!

Hi Andy,

My friend Steve lives in Saurat has bouldered fairly extensively in the area and would be up for searching around for more

Looking forward to going back myself

Doesn't Graham Lynch (formerly a man at the BMC) live round there too?

Looks good!

Yea been in touch with Steve, we will meet up at some point. I've done Superball, good problem! Laramade is my lazy default option.

Superball looks good!

It is, but its quite hard to do the move to the horn without a bit of wildness, steve manages it with style in the vid!

I have to say there is a lot of bouldering here and lots of potential, yet virtually no documentation. Its so good that although its getting a bit warm, I haven't got out a rope yet, nor in 12 weeks have I been/trained inside!

Its taken a while but after a good bit of searching some very good problems are turning up in the Ariege, lots of potential. Here's one I did last week.
