Ironically, I've just picked up a new rain cover for my steed.

Just wanted you to feel jealous.

Mofo. That hurt a bit.

Dave I love the Gsx 750, the slabby one, but I prefer following models, like the 1990 one, just for the line of the tank, that I like to be more parallel to the groud.
Lovely bike, would love to have one.
On this matter, every time I bump into a sport bike I'm always a bit "scared" by how big they are in the flesh. I don't think I'd be comfortable to ride one...
My Sv seems and feels very small.

Back from Spain after 4 days at Andalucia circuit. Wow what a trip! Blue skies and 20°C for the whole time. It was brilliant for my riding and its great for the social too!

I started in the intermediate group but was bumped up to advanced before the end of the trip and just about managed to keep up at that pace on my street ready bike, pegs scraping and all! Unfortunately I found the limits of my street tyres on the final day and lost the front pushing hard on a hairpin. I was OK (it was actually quite a buzz!) and the bike has sustained mostly cosmetic damage so a perfect excuse to make it a pure track bike going forwards  :devil-smiley: Next time out I'll be on slicks with warmers and rearsets.

I'd love to do one of these trips every year now and would definitely recommend.

Here's a selection of photos I purchased from the photographer:

Fantastic. Thanks for posting Liam.

You must be pretty chuffed with the photos too.
Good to hear the bike survived :2thumbsup: Presumably it was just a low speed washout on the front. Saved one of those on my knee back in the summer, which I'm sure I wouldn't have, using older rubber!

I used to get frustrated by hairpins and other low speed corners, but then again, it's something you'll even hear top riders at the TT saying. You're more likely to gain/lose time in the faster corners, and possibly more likely to lose the bike pushing for something marginal in the slow stuff.

Great you could escape the UK winter and make us all a little jealous.
Hopefully you'll still be on the roads too. I used to ride my (legal) track bike in the Peak, but got pulled for speeding once.

That's an interesting thought that you don't gain/lose as much time on the slow stuff but it makes sense. I'll consider that in future when i'm chasing lap times but trying to keep rubber side down! It does feel good to nail technical sections though!

The bike is back home now, here's a photo of the damage.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1g2PcTI58fJEPE_A02XmUsPWlLgbXEpv6/view?usp=sharing

Fortunately the tank hasn't pierced so i'll just put a fibreglass tank cover over it as I should have done already  :wall: Fortunately the rest of the damage is mostly stuff I wanted to change anyway - rearsets, track fairings, and levers. I've also ripped the fitting out of my master cylinder so i'm hoping that won't be too painful to rebuild and bleed. The crash bungs saved the engine casings at least! I'll be getting some covers down there too.

Your poor pup Liam!

Good you're thinking purposefully about it.
Yes, a pattern fairing, a good idea.

I watched this video of some guy with patches strapped to his knees.

Looks useful, but maybe a bit grabby on the tarmac!  ;D

A few useful tips - and none worth as much as getting out there and doing it :2thumbsup:

https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/lessons-learned-20-pro-motorcycle-roadracing-riding-tips/

"15. Kenny Roberts
GO FAST IN THE FAST PARTS

Three-time 500cc World Champion Kenny Roberts doesn't believe in coasting--you're either on the gas or on the brakes. The most important corner on any racetrack is the one that leads onto the longest (and thus fastest) straightaway, so Roberts would put a priority on getting that section right. Trying to go fast in slower corners is not only pointless, it's risky, because you don't have momentum on your side. If the front tire loses grip in a fast turn, you've got time to save it. If it lets go in a slow one, it's game over."

That reminds me of a tip I read from one of Ron Haslams racing schools - to learn the limit on the front, just grab a handful of front until it loses traction, and then just release the brake.

Let us all know how you get on with that!  ;D
