The Archives - HELP WANTED
March 08, 2016, 04:44:05 am
As those of you that have read my blog will know, I've been out of climbing a long time. Well last night I managed to get access to my Increasing The Calibre Vimeo account after being locked out and forgetting the log in details. I've been asked quite a few times what happened to The Archives and frankly I thought I had lost all the footage on a hard drive years ago. It turns out that through some stroke of luck I had uploaded the rough cuts of the sections as private to my Vimeo and then forgot about it.

So I've downloaded them all and stuck them on a time line, it's 30 mins of pure gritstone, sure it's over 10 years old but there is some great climbing in there. I can't really do much editing or color correcting to it due to the format I had to download it in, but I think it works given the context - this was back in the day when you actually shot on tape still.

But I need some help - it has been ages since I've climbed on gritstone and I've lived in the US for years - some of the problems don't have names or grades. I really need 3 or 4 people with an encyclopedic knowledge of Peak and Yorkshire grit to watch it privately before I drop it and tell me the problem names and grades in order. I will be able to stick them on over the top which I think will make it a better watch. (Disclaimer and apology - it is in V grades for the international crowd)

Any takers? I can pretty much guarantee it'll get you psyched to go out.

Here's the original trailer

There are loads of folk on here well qualified to do that.. But (and this may be a pain in the arse to do so understand why not etc..) but why not post up a still from each problem (even better from an obscure angle/edit so it's hard to work out etc..) then the combined UKB mind can have some fun trying to figure out what is what?

:)

I know what all the problems are in the trailer, I've even fallen off all the Yorkshire ones, does that qualify?

Also, I was there during the filming of a few shots! Watching Ned static Hurricane was a big influence on my climbing...

He looked about 12 in that shot!

Is it worth banging the whole thing on vimeo as a low quality draft version and posting names to this thread?

He still does if you ask me, I swear he never ages.

Thanks guys, I've just uploaded a low quality version and stuck on a password. I'll PM you it.

I love that idea Tomtom - but as you point out it would be a pain in the ass!

It really is quite nostalgic, the music is too which is kind of fun.

Amazing thing is I just uploaded a vid to vimeo shot on my iPhone of two problems at Great Barrington - incredible to see the quality difference ten years has made. We shot it with decent cameras at the time from uni at the time, iPhone cameras blow them out of the water now.

Cheers, if you can stick them under the video with a grade and time stamp that would be perfect.

Don't worry about the intro section.
