Loja - crag debolted
January 02, 2016, 03:24:24 pm
Just a heads up to anyone planning to visit the amazing looking crag of Loja, Andalucia. The majority of routes at the lower crag (the big one) have now been de-bolted. As in upwards of 90% of routes, so systematic stripping/chopping, not just the first hanger nicked. The upper crag is still untouched as yet but is now bird banned from 1st Jan to 30th June.

No info as to why but it's safe to assume the lower crag is now off limits unfortunately. Might save someone a wasted 3hr round trip unlike muggins.

Looks like the environment agency is blaming the destruction of an eagles nest on climbers and have therefore de bolted the crag.

I had a similar experience in November and posted an update on UKC. Real shame - I climbed there 4 years ago and thought it was a great crag.
