Took a mixed case from the place mentioned before down for my Dad at xmas who no longer drinks. Not sure about the calorie content but most were pretty nice. Not expensive. They have a warehouse in Manchester where you can collect.

1 - weights session
2 - core and theraband
3 - CV session at home
4 - quick jog to try get some photos at breakwater in near darkness, then 2 hour session at wall. Felt OK, but heavy
5 - 20 min walk, light core session
6 - 40 min walk, 2 hour wall session. Climbed OK, but feeling jaded. Mates left early and I was 1 of 2 actually bouldering, but ended up just lapping a few easier problems - (I guess working towards 4 x 4s, but more like 3 x 3s)
7- ten minute run in pissing rain from bus stop to train station to get car after all trains cancelled due to flooding. 25 min cardio at home - realised I'm skiing in 3.5 weeks, and not done much cardio in a while.
8 - twenty min walk from car to work, and same on way back, tried doing some deadlifts and squats.
9 - morning swim with daughter, twenty min walk in pissing rain with kids. Weights.
10 - 20 min walk with kids, out on bike for an hour after dark. Cold but dressed right for it, only thing that suffered was thumbs went numb.
11 - lowest output day so far. Managed 10 mins of theraband while waiting at swimming lessons, and about 10 mins at home, spent rest of evening working. Probably mark it up as a fail.
12- Some CV, squats, deadlifts (of a sort - using 2 heaviest kettlebells) knees make worrying clicky noises though. Add a bit of core. Weight this morning 13st 8, one lb above my acceptable "top" limit. Convinced no sweets, chocolate or crisps all week is what has made the difference.
13 - Meant to do wall session, but got stuck and work wading through a tide of ill thought out shit (aka proofreading and editing) so only walked 20 mins from car to work and back to car.
14 - half hour weights and CV
15 - not much, spent the evening digging out ski kit, finding stuff unused since last winter trimming touring skins, loading van etc. But didn't actually sit down all evening, so guess I was doing something.
16 - early start, drove to Ben Lawers, made it to upper car park (with snow chains) skinned up the valley and across to ridge. As we were ascending weather got worse; low cloud and snowing quite heavily (in spite of forecast). Due to deteriorating visibility we got as far as top of Beinn Ghlas (1103m - still Munro height) and decided it was pointless verging on silly to press on to the top of Lawers, so we descended the NW side down to the valley on great light snow which would have been fun if we could see anything. We dropped into the corrie with the intention of going back up Meall Corranaich, but by now vis was getting pretty poor so we skinned back up the side of Beinn  Ghlas to a convenient level and then skied back down and carried on all the way to about 20 m short of the road. Horizontal distance covered - 6 miles. 5 hours on the go.
17 - feeling pretty broken, has run around in garden with kids in morning, and then to local park with kids, who had fun playing on the frozen pond.
18 - bit of theraband while waiting at swimming lessons. Some CV, weights and core in evening.
19 - short walk in morning to work, managed a bit stretching during the day, but left office at 9:45pm, so not much time to do much.
20 - 20 min walk to work and back. Bouldering session at wall. felt OK but knackered from previous day at work, and lack of sleep night before. Managed 2 productive hours, then hung about doing easy stuff and shooting the shit.
21 - 20 min walk to works and back. Some CV and core at home.
22 - Nothing really, short walk to station. Got embroiled in photo editing in evening .
23 - swimming in morning with daughter, sat on train to Glasgow, walked around Glasgow a bit. At and drank too much.
24 - bit hungover, 30 min walk to TCA, fairly decent 2 hrs plus bouldering session with Fultonius et al. Walked half hour back to city centre. Sat on train and ate crap. Half hour core and weights in evening.
[/quote]
25 - lunchtime yoga - 1 hour. First time in about 2 months. It hurt but not terribly. Some weights in evening.
26 - core and weights.

Warmed up OK, ticked most of new probs on 10 deg board, an inspired flash (by the skin of my teeth) of a hardish new prob on the 45 deg, flash of new one on the 30 deg, then performance petered off a bit, so plugged away at some of the old failures and did laps on some of the easier routes. 20 min stretching before bed.
28 - 2 short ten min walks from train station to work, short walk at lunch. weight - 13st 6 3/4 (first time the right side of the comfortable 13.5 st benchmark since Xmas!).

Finally got the Erdinger weissbier 0.5%. It is nice although maybe I wasn't blown away because it's been well hyped on here. Day 28 is forgivable as I was at Simon's funeral and then in a gridlock for too long.

29th: 90 minutes on Devon Sent in Bovey Woods. drizzle off and on, couldn't get back to my high point, took half the session to even get to the first hard move, and only managed that once. Waste of time, money, skin, and CO2. Pissed off.

It's done!

1 Jan: really solid session at Boulderwelt Munich Wes - lots and lots and lots of problems
2 Jan: 20+ mins of treadmill sprints
3 Jan: Weights - Javorek dumbbell complex
4 Jan: Hangboard
5 Jan: Hangboard
6 Jan: Bouldering (indoors)
7 Jan: 90 min hike in the forest
8 Jan: Hangboard
9 Jan: Bouldering (outdoors)
10 Jan: Slow trail run.
11 Jan: Hangboard followed by an exceedingly sweaty hour of bouldering
12 Jan: Hike in the forest
13 Jan: Even-more-exceedingly sweaty hour of bouldering
14 Jan: Pinch block max hangs and some desultory core
15 Jan: Horrible afternoon out bouldering.
16 Jan: 38 degrees celsius and no surf. Hangboard, deadlifts and kettlebell swings.
17 Jan: Hike in the forest
18 Jan: Hangboard - 3/3/3
19 Jan: Weights - deadlifts, kettlebell swings and presses. Hike in the forest in the evening.
20 Jan: Hangboard - 5/3/1 followed by some bouldering.
21 Jan: Weights - deadlifts and kettlebell swings
22 Jan: Hangboard - 5/3/1 and then 3 hours of standup paddleboarding in canals with all-round surf wad Chris Bertish for a work do.
23 Jan: Post-work do hangover and desultory surf.
24 Jan: Not the best day of bouldering ever.
25 Jan: lunchtime deadlifts, afternoon hang board
26 Jan: bouldering - short but decent session
27 Jan: lunchtime weights, afternoon 75 min hike in the forest
28 Jan: AM surf, PM Boulder, evening hang board. Heavy day.
29 Jan: light deadlifts and KB TGUs - focus on mobility and form rather than power
30 Jan: AM surf in fun waves, followed by a one arm hangboard session
31 Jan: AM surf in even funner waves. Great session. Might go for a walk in the forest later.

That felt like solid month of activity and effort to me.

Well done to everyone else who got through it.

31 - several hours sport climbing, 150m+, good, plus 2 x 20 mins tiring walking. Good exercise for sure. Vino roja instead of ceverza 0,0 for now.

So that's that. I did a lot of exercise and by the end I felt I was gymming, indoor bouldering, and indoor routing reasonably well. Don't dare weigh myself though...

Struggling through 40 minutes weights and fingerboard with a crashing hangover felt like an appropriate end. Oddly pleased with myself despite only actually climbing three times in the whole month, loads of fingerboarding (for me) though. Did someone mention a February drinkathon?

Terrible finish to a light-weight Sharkathon.

28 - In planes all day. Nothing
29 - Sick. Nothing
30 - Sick. Nothing
31 - Less sick but in a prework depression. Nothing

Good news is I lost 1.4kg in January down to 74.1kg. Can't wait to get back to climbing something.

31st: 1hr routes at UCR

Not bad - think I missed three days - all when I was on nights - otherwise didn't feel like I had to try too hard to get a bit in every day. still only just under 70kg though.

Well done all.

30. Beastmaker max hangs; hillwalking
31. Shoulder mobility

Days trained: 31/31

Indoor climbing: 13
Fingerboarding:   5
General Strength training:   9
Mobility/stretching:   14
Cardio:   3
(couldn't do much cardio because of icy roads and having a virus for over a week)

Did a couple of wall sessions whilst ill that I wouldn't have done otherwise, probably not a good idea. But seems to be no great harm done.

I found it thoroughly worthwhile and harder than I expected. I mostly wasn't hitting it all that hard on individual training sessions, and on what would otherwise have been rest days I was doing half an hour of mobility and a couple of sets of press ups, which considered on its own isn't that taxing. But towards the end of the month I definitively was cumulatively tired, all three climbing wall sessions in the last week were pretty feeble, and an evening or two of just chilling on the sofa was becoming a very tempting prospect.

14/1 - nowt I think
15/1 - HIIT class at gym, used heavier weights for the resistance stuff so a lot harder
16/1 - nowt much unless you include running round a soft play gym for an hour with Una
17/1 - as 16/1
18/1 - Depot session
19/1 - HIIT class at gym
20/1 - arrival of inevitable cold so nowt
21/1 - nowt again
22/1 - nowt again

23/1 - 30/1 - with the exception of one Depot session in the evening of 24/1, nowt thanks to a mad busy week at work (no lunchtimes to go to gym) and contracting another cold having only just recovered from the previous one!

An ignominious end really, was enjoying the challenge of trying to do something every day but when confronted with feeling shite and ill couldn't (and probably shouldn't) force myself into it.

25 - lunchtime yoga - 1 hour. First time in about 2 months. It hurt but not terribly. Some weights in evening.
26 - core and weights.
27 - 20 min walk to work and then back. 2 hour bouldering session.
29 - short walks to station and back, a bit of strenuous DIY in the evening
30 - shimming with youngest in morning. half hour walk in the woods on Saturday, was baltic cold and alternating between rain snow and sleet.
31 - Up to Ballater to snow. dragged the kids around the green on sledges, had lunch, then went up nearby hill to do some proper sledging. Runnig up a hill dragging two kids is seriously hard work.

7 days which I would chalk up as fails under the strictest Sharkathon rules, but effort on other days probably made up for them I think.

I must say I failed miserably. I do cycle ~20 mins almost every day, but that feels like the equivalent of rolling out of bed...

Ach well.

Well done all those who managed!

week one
At least 30 mins per day mostly bike with one run and one rowing machine session. Plus two 2 hours wall sessions. weekly average weight was 81.2kg down to 80.8Kg so a pretty slow start but at least heading in the right direction. Also all the Christmas goodies have gone from the fridge so things might pick up a bit now.

Week Two
At least 45 mins of cardio each day mostly bike or run and three two hour wall sessions. Weight rather variable but weeks average is 80.4kg

Week three
5 days of 75 mins on the bike  (but also 2 days of nothing over the weekend)  three two hour wall sessions weight sill variable but weekly average down 80.1kg so still heading in the right direction.

Week 4.
5 days of 60 mins cycling a couple of  50 min runs, three 90 min wall sessions, weight stubbornly  80.1 kg

So not as much weight loss as I would have liked but I do feel I have lost the Christmas lethargy and feel a bit fitter.

I plan to switch to more arm endurance activities for the next month but the bike riding has become the daliy commute so that will also continue. hey ho lets see what happens.

Technically, I failed to manage 30 mins of exercise every day. But, I did manage to do something on my days off, and my job is extremely physical so I don't feel too bad. Biggest achievement for me has been keeping off the booze. Managed that, which to be quite honest I'm still in shock about! Plus I lost about 5lbs in weight (purely from not drinking) and I am having my gym induction tomorrow night so maybe all is not list.

Well done to all who managed to succeed.
